Don’t Believe Reports That Omar Mateen’s Last Text to His Wife Was ‘I’m Gay, I Hate Myself’
A false story tied to a malware site reported that Orlando shooter Omar Mateen’s last text to his wife before the attack was “I’m gay. I hate myself, and that’s why I’m doing this” was picked up by Spanish newspaper El Mundo and aggregated by other Spanish-language news outlets, including Uruguay’s El Pais, Peru’s El Comerico, Paraguay.com, and Ecuador’s Expreso, according to web watchdog Snopes.com:
There was no truth to the story, which originated with a malware site that illegally appropriates the trademarks of a legitimate news organization (ABC News) and publishes fictitious clickbait stories to lure readers to the site and generate revenue.
Many people on social media were also fooled by the false circulating headlines.
Federal investigators said in June that they had turned up no evidence that offers validity to earlier reports that the Orlando shooter was gay and that “no conclusions should be drawn” from interviews with people claiming to have interacted with Mateen.

New Tom Daley Documentary Will Explore His Relationship with Dustin Lance Black
A new documentary about British Olympic diver Tom Daley’s life since the 2012 London Olympics will focus on his coming out, his relationship with screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and his preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympics this summer, the HuffPost UK reports:
The camera team have been following Tom since the London 2012 Olympics, where he won a bronze medal. That meant they were there to witness his decision, under intense media speculation, to make a video telling his fans personally that he had begun a relationship with another man. He and Dustin Lance Black are now engaged.
Tom has grown up under an intense spotlight, since he first represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympics, aged only 14. This documentary also catches up with him as he works with new coach Jane Figueiredo, and pursues a gold medal in Brazil.
Called Tom Daley: Diving For Gold, the ITV documentary is set to air this summer.
Daley has an active YouTube vlog where he posts videos on a weekly basis as well:

Texas AG Ken Paxton Leads 13-State Lawsuit Against Obama’s ‘Transgender Bathroom’ Directive
Texas AG Ken Paxton Leads 13-State Lawsuit Against Obama’s ‘Transgender Bathroom’ Directive
A coalition of 13 states is seeking an immediate halt to President Obama’s “transgender bathroom” directive.
Lawyers for the coalition argue that “the new mandate harms school districts from coast to coast by usurping lawful authority over the regulation of educational institutions and the management of their facilities. It also jeopardizes billions of dollars of federal funding. Nationwide relief,” they claim, “is necessary to prevent the irreparable harm that the new mandates will cause.”
The Dallas Morning News reports that the coalition includes Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (above), the lawsuit filed Wednesday would affect public schools across the country if successful.

Harrold Independent School District, near Wichita Falls, Texas is the official plaintiff on behalf of the state, but most of the attention there has fallen on the Fort Worth Independent School District where Superintendent Kent Scribner (right) issued guidelines that would allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice.
Last week, Paxton issued a nonbinding opinion that the Scribner’s guidelines violate state law by relegating “parents to a subordinate status” in being informed about their children. Paxton added that Scribner illegally enforced the rules without the school board’s input.

Scribner has ignored calls for him to step down and has issued a letter to state leaders noting that the district had approved official guidelines relating to transgender students five years ago.
Yesterday, Paxton reiterated the state’s stance that the federal government is trying to change the meaning of the word “sex” in anti-discrimination laws by including “gender identity” in the definition. In a written statement, he said:
“Schools are facing the potential loss of funding for simply exercising the authority to implement the policies that best protect their students. Every employer is now being threatened for not bowing to anyone that identifies as the opposite sex.”
