Kris And Caitlyn Jenner Cheer On Kendall During Her Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Debut

Kendall Jenner may have banned her sisters from watching her big debut walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, but her parents were welcome to see her dream of finally becoming a VS model come true.

On Tuesday night, Kris Jenner and her ex Caitlyn Jenner put aside their differences to support their daughter Kendall on her big night. The former couple, whose divorce was finalized in 2014, were all smiles as they chatted, embraced one another and posed for the cameras

And while the exes are getting along better these days (Caitlyn even participated in a musical tribute video to Kris for her 60th birthday), they didn’t actually watch the show together. Kris sat alongside boyfriend Corey Gamble, while Caitlyn, who looked very leggy Tuesday night, sat elsewhere.

But you better believe they were damn proud of Kendall.

Just look at her.

Talk about being genetically blessed, no doubt Kendall’s parents were patting themselves on the back while watching her strut down the runway.

Wednesday Morning News Feed: Gay Veterans’ Honor, Michael Phelps, Hillary

flagVETERAN’S DAY: Sen. Brian Schatz, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Rep. Mark Pocan and Rep. Charles Rangel announce ‘Restore Honor to Service Members Act’ to restore honor to discharged LGB veterans: “Our bill would turn the Defense Department’s temporary policy into permanent law. And while we believe that the bar to prove one’s military service should remain high, it would simplify the paperwork requirement necessary for service members to initiate a review, making it clear that the lack of documentation cannot be used as the basis for denying a review. Finally, it would require the historians of each military service to review cases where service members were discharged for their sexual orientation before the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” This would improve the historical record that the Defense Department can use to help gay, lesbian and bisexual veterans correct their records.”

KendellDEPARTURES: Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights Kate Kendell leaves Mormon Church: “Even at the height of church involvement in the passage of Proposition 8 in California, I never seriously considered removing my name. It just didn’t matter that much to me. Spiritually and emotionally, I left the church I grew up in decades ago. And despite being a ‘known gay activist’ to the church, I was never excommunicated, so my name remained on the church rolls as a member. Not anymore.”

GOP DEBATE: Hillary Clinton was mentioned 25 times: “The favoured Republican bugbear against Clinton, the attack on the US consular station in Benghazi in 2012, was notable by its comparative absence, though Ben Carson got some early applause for the line, ‘When I look at somebody like Hillary Clinton, who sits there and tells her daughter and a government official that this was a terrorist attack and then everybody else that it was a video, where I come from they call that a lie.’”

Her response:

CATHOLIC CHURCH: Vatican properties operating as brothels for priests, report claims: “Vatican-owned properties are being used by priests as brothels and massage parlours, according to the latest claims to emerge from the Vatileaks scandal. The properties implicated in a report, leaked by a Vatican mole, include premises close to the Italian Parliament and a solarium near Piazza Barberini. A Vatican department, the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, owns hundreds of exclusive properties in central Rome, was also singled out in the document.”

Dallas Takes Action To Protect Trans People From Discrimination

Dallas Takes Action To Protect Trans People From Discrimination

Dallas has a message for the rest of the world: We’re not Houston.

Just one week after Houston voters rejected a nondiscrimination law, the Dallas City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday morning to update a city ordinance to explicitly ban discrimination on the basis of gender identity.

“We’re a very diverse city,” Mayor Mike Rawlings said, according to the New Civil Rights Movement. “We want to make sure everyone’s protected.”

Members of the transgender community in Dallas celebrated Tuesday’s decision.

“To see somebody stick up for us makes me feel good,” Leslie McMurray, a transgender entrepreneur who works in the city, told WFAA. “It’s about employment and housing and access to health care… things that just allow us to live our lives.”

The move stands in sharp contrast to the defeat of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) last week, which saw opponents using scare tactics such as claiming the measure would allow male sexual predators to use the women’s room.

“In the entire United States, no one has been arrested for being transgender in a bathroom because somebody was threatened by a transgender person,” Patti Fink of the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance told Fox4 News. “It’s never happened.”

Opponents of the Dallas measure took to Twitter to claim that it was done secretly and with no public notice. Don Huffines, a state senator who has tried to outlaw nondiscrimination ordinances such as the one in Dallas, called it a “sneak attack” and wrote:

Repeal Dallas’ new LGBT ordinance immediately. It was not reviewed or thoughtfully considered by the public.

— Don Huffines (@DonHuffines) November 10, 2015

However, city officials say it had been under discussion for a year. Councilman Philip Kingston fired off a sharp retort, bluntly telling Huffines to “stop lying.”

Went through a year of public discussion and makes no change to the existing public policy of Dallas. Stop lying t.co/IIhFU0uVgK

— Philip Kingston (@PhilipTKingston) November 10, 2015

In fact, the ordinance was actually passed in 2002 and already offered protections based on “an individual’s real or perceived orientation as heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual or an individual’s real or perceived gender identity,” according to the Dallas Morning News.

Tuesday’s move tweaked the language, separating sexual orientation from gender identity.

Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin said the change in language strengthens protections for members of the city’s transgender community.

“In the wake of a vicious campaign in Houston that attacked transgender people and led to the repeal of common sense protections, Dallas today sent a vital message that they will fight to protect and advance the rights of transgender people,” Griffin said in a news release.

Across the state, business leaders in Houston are worried that fallout from the HERO defeat combined with Dallas strengthening its protections for trans people could have financial ramifications for the city.

“The concern now is that we’re the only major city in Texas that doesn’t have an equal rights ordinance,” Mike Waterman, president of the Greater Houston Conventions and Visitors Bureau, told the Houston Business Journal. “By default, that puts us at a disadvantage, and my counterpart in Dallas has already indicated [in local media] that businesses can come to Dallas because they have an equal rights ordinance. So it’s possible that other cities could exploit the fact that we don’t have an equal rights ordinance.”

Omar Narvaez, a member of the Dallas LGBT Task Force, put it more succinctly.

We don’t stand for discrimination in the city of Dallas,” he told the local CBS station. “And we haven’t for many, many years.”

A gay guide to Norway

A gay guide to Norway

Whether you are experiencing Oslo in summer or the winter wonderland of the country’s north – Norway offers something for everyone.

Tromso

Tromsø is known as the capital of the Arctic – surrounded by spectacular fjords and mountains. Throughout the decades this has been the gateway for expeditions into the Arctic regions.

Walking With Reindeer

The indigenous people of the Arctic region have clearly found their place within the modern world. Walking with the reindeer of the Sami was one of the highlights of my visit to northern Norway.

Narvik

The perfect place to begin your northern Norwegian adventure.

The military history of Narvik

My knowledge of the ins and outs of World War II is limited to some of the major milestones, but if you know your history (or if you are from Norway) you will know that Narvik played a key role during the war.

The Church of Norway’s twelve bishops unanimously voted to allow gay couples to marry in religious wedding ceremonies.

What Is Amy Sedaris Doing Crawling Through A Puppy Pile Of Gratuitous Gay Sex?

Why, she’s navigating “Shondaland,” of course!

In this bizarre installment of Billy on the Street (though that’s not saying much since they’re all wickedly bizarre), Sedaris must complete an obstacle course based on the prolific career of TV producer/writer Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, ScandalHow to Get Away With Murder).

Here’s what that entails, according to Billy Eichner:

“Burst through the glass ceiling at ABC.”

giphy-1

“There’s a woman dying over there, but fuck that nurse!”

amyy-2

“Climb to the top of Wig Mountain and get Kerry Washington’s wig.”

amyy-3

“Put the wig on the Olivia Popemobile. Drive the wig!”

amyy-4

“Hack something.”

amyy-5

“Climb through the gays having gratuitous gay sex.”

amyy-6

“The NAACP Image Awards ball pit.”

amyy-7

“Run through this gauntlet of ten white people patting themselves on the bag for embracing a black lead.”

Ellen Has a Solution for the Starbucks Holiday Cup Controversy: WATCH

Ellen Starbucks

Ellen DeGeneres took on the ridiculous Starbucks holiday cup controversy yesterday and devised a solution ridiculous enough for the controversy itself.

“Look at this cup,” she says. “You might as well call it a Satan sipper.”

“People are so upset. So Starbucks released a statement about their cups. They said that ‘belonging, inclusion, and diversity are the core values of Starbucks and Starbucks wants to give customers an experience that inspires the spirit of the season.’ HOW DARE THEY?”

Do Ellen has created a $99 solution, retailing for slightly less than a Venti frappucino.

A Plea on Veterans Day

A Plea on Veterans Day

The nation honors the sacrifices of its servicemembers Wednesday, in its annual observance of Veterans Day. But for many LGBT servicemembers, it’s a bittersweet day.

LGB troops, finally freed from the shackles of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” still must fight to have their dishonorable discharges reversed, while some GOP presidential candidates are endorsing a return of DADT. And a ban remains on open transgender service, though a military working group is exploring an end to the prohibition.

Barbara Satin, National LGBTQ Task Force Assistant Faith Work Director and former U.S. Air Force officer (pictured above), released the following statement on the trans military ban:

“On Veterans Day, as we honor those who’ve served in the military, let us also lift up the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) service members. For decades, courageous and dedicated LGBTQ people served in the U.S. military while hiding their true identity out of fear of being discharged. Today, while we have made significant strides with the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, transgender people are still denied the opportunity to serve openly in the military. That is why we’re again calling on the Defense Department to expedite their repeal of the ban of transgender people in the military.”

Same-sex marriages in Ireland can go ahead from Monday

Same-sex marriages in Ireland can go ahead from Monday

Same-sex couples in Ireland can give notice that they wish to marry from Monday (16 Nov). Those who have already given notice for a civil partnership will instead be able to marry.

It follows the commencement orders for the Marriage act being signed yesterday at Dublin Castle by the Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald TD and Tánaiste Joan Burton TD.

Both women tweeted about the historic signings.

— Joan Burton (@joanburton) November 10, 2015

Ireland legalized same-sex marriage earlier in the year following a referendum on the issue in May – the first country to hold a public vote on the issue.

A total of 1,201,607 people (62.1%) voted yes and 734,300 (37.9%) voted no.

News that marriages will begin on Monday was welcomed by GLEN: Gay and Lesbian Equality Network.

‘Today we celebrate the final legal step in the remarkable Irish journey to equality for lesbian and gay people,’ said Kieran Rose, GLEN Co-Chair.

‘From next week lesbian and gay couples will be apply to get married and share in the same constitutional status as every other citizen.

‘It is a truly joyful and historic moment, not just for lesbian and gay people, their families and friends, but for all Irish people. It is the end of a long legal journey that began with decriminalization in 1993, equality legislation in 1990s, Civil Partnership in 2010 and culminated in the passing of the marriage equality referendum in May.’

‘There is further work to be done to ensure that the extraordinary support and goodwill of the Irish people is translated into real change in the daily lives of LGBT people. Together we can create an Ireland where this and future generations of LGBT people can achieve their full potential in school, in work and in wider society on the same basis as all others.’
