South African Surgeons Announce World's First Successful Penis Transplant, Nine More to Follow

Su

A medical team at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa announced on Friday the world’s first successful penis transplant, The Washington Post reports:

In a nine-hour surgery, a South African medical team successfully transplanted the penis of a dead donor to a young man without one. Three months later, they say, the recipient, who lost his penis because of complications from a ritual circumcision, has a totally functional sexual organ. That makes him the first successful recipient of a donated penis.

South Africa’s News24 adds:

According to the SU Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), as part of the study, nine more patients will receive penile transplants.

SU said in a statement that this procedure could eventually also be extended to men who have lost their penises from penile cancer or as a last-resort treatment for severe erectile dysfunction due to medication side effects.

This All-Male 'Cell Block Tango' From 'Broadway Backwards' Will Leave You Breathless

This All-Male 'Cell Block Tango' From 'Broadway Backwards' Will Leave You Breathless
This stunning, all-male twist on the “Cell Block Tango” number from the classic musical “Chicago” needs to be seen to be believed.

Hunky performers Joshua Buscher-West, Marty Lawson, Alfie Parker Jr., Waldemar Quinones-Villanueva, Alex Ringler and Ryan Steele tackled the delightfully dark showstopper at “Broadway Backwards,” held March 9 at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre. As its name implies, the event is an annual celebration where gays and lesbians see their stories told through the great songs of musical theater, sung by their favorite Broadway stars.

Collectively, the group’s macho take on the Bob Fosse moves is just as memorable — and steamy — as the original “Chicago” number seen on Broadway and in the Oscar-winning 2002 film version.

This year’s event raised a record $466,717 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BCEFA) and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center.

Check out a series of photos from the show below, or head here to watch more performances.

'Empire' Star Jussie Smollett Kills It on American Idol With 'No Apologies' – VIDEO

'Empire' Star Jussie Smollett Kills It on American Idol With 'No Apologies' – VIDEO

Smollett

Empire star Jussie Smollett capped off his very busy week with a musical appearance on Thursday night’s episode of American Idol.

Joined by Bryshere Y. Gray, who plays his on-screen brother on the skyrocketing FOX show, Smollett brought his A-game for a commanding performance of “No Apologies,” – an apt song choice considering what he told Variety following his decision to come out to Ellen earlier this week:

“I didn’t talk to Ellen so that people could, be like ‘oh my God, let’s see what Jussie does in his bedroom in his private life.’ But I did talk to her so that people understood that they’re not alone. That’s all.”

Knockoff Knockouts: Hunky Men Model Hilariously Misspelled CK Undies

Knockoff Knockouts: Hunky Men Model Hilariously Misspelled CK Undies

Many a frugal shopper have been lured by the promise of luxury goods at cheap, cheap cheap! prices. What’s not to love about getting something that looks stylish and fashion-forward for the cost of shopping at Goodwill?

But as is all too often the case in life, knockoffs are usually too good to be true. The stitching is horrible, the sizing all wrong, and the fabric low-grade.

And as Dutch photographer Jan Dirk van der Burg discovered on vacation in the Middle East, misspelled brand names are as prevalent as they are hilarious. He noticed a pair of Calvin Klein undies that said “Calven Klain” on the waistband, and a lightbulb went off over his head.

He spent the next three years scouring the planet for Calvin Klein knockoff typos, and now he’s collected them into a book, complete with hunky underwear models shot in the signature CK style.

It’s called Calvin Klein: They Dyslexic Collection, and you can get your very own copy here.

Enjoy this preview, with accompanying information about each pair of faux designer goods:

Houston LGBT Activists Vow To 'Take Back Montrose' After Gay Man's Murder: VIDEO

Houston LGBT Activists Vow To 'Take Back Montrose' After Gay Man's Murder: VIDEO

Montrose

About 50 people gathered Friday night in the heart of Houston’s gayborhood to protest a recent crime wave that culminated in the murder of a gay man outside a bar early Thursday.

Juan-carlos-ramirez-hat-rev2-650Houston police have identified the victim as 22-year-old Juan Carlo Ramirez (right). They arrested two suspects — ages 15 and 16 — Thursday evening and charged them with capital murder in Ramirez’s death. The teens are also believed to be responsible for another shooting nearby that left the victim in critical condition. Police say Ramirez’s murder was a carjacking and not an anti-gay hate crime.

Last month, a gay Houston man was shot while walking home from the same bar, and the LGBT community has had enough. From MyFoxHouston.com:

Their signs made the message clear. It’s time to “take back Montrose.” Brad Janacek organized dozens of concerned Montrose residents Friday night to peacefully protest at the intersection of Westheimer and Montrose. They’re asking The Houston Police Department for more police presence in the area. “We’re fed up as a community and I don’t live here anymore because of the crime,” said Janacek. …

Protester Bobby Lowe thinks the LGBTQ community should be worried and not just about these latest violent incidents, but about a perceived uptick in car burglaries and thefts.

“I think it’s about gay people being targeted. They’re coming here for a reason and the reason is because gay people, [criminals] feel like their easier targets,” said Lowe.

Police say they plan to increase patrols in the area, and a town hall is planned between the department and the LGBT community next month.

Of course, none of the mainstream outlets raise the question of whether the uptick in violence could be tied to all the recent hateful rhetoric from opponents of the city’s Equal Rights Ordinance.

Meanwhile, Ramirez’s family launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral expenses. From Click2Houston.com

Ramirez’ mom, Reynald Rubio, spent Friday planning her 22-year-old son’s funeral.

“He is a happy boy. Beautiful, good boy. I love you, my son,” she said as she burst into tears.
