Daily Meditation: Soulmates

Daily Meditation: Soulmates
We all need help maintaining our personal spiritual practice. We hope that these daily meditations, prayers and mindful awareness exercises can be part of bringing spirituality alive in your life.

Today’s meditation features a song by The Postal Service and covered by folk singer Iron & Wine. The song is a ballad for love and perfect connection, which so many strive to find in their lifetime.

Such Great Heights

I am thinking it’s a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images and when we kiss
They’re perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate
That God himself did make us
Into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay

And true it may seem like a stretch
But it’s thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you’re away
When I am missing you to death

When you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
Come down now, they’ll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
Come down now but we’ll stay

I’ve tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
It sounded thin upon listening

And that frankly will not fly
You’ll hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
Come down now, they’ll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
Come down now but we’ll stay

Douches and dystopias and Diaz, oh my!

This week in home entertainment we have a film fest fave about a narcissistic New York writer, Listen Up Philip; Snowpiercer, a dystopian sci-fi about a world where a train serves as the last home for humanity; and Cameron Diaz again flexing her comedic muscles in Sex Tape (above).

Listen Up Philip

(VOD)

After making a splash at Sundance in January and other festivals since, Alex Ross Perry’s comedy comes to VOD this week. Jason Schwartzman stars as a frustrated, super douchey Manhattan novelist who stirs up drama in everything he does. It’s fun, acerbic stuff!

Snowpiercer

($29.99 Blu-ray, $24.98 DVD; Anchor Bay)

Based on a European graphic novel, Korean director Joon-ho Bong’s sci-fi thriller sees a future where, due to climate change, all that remains of humanity exists on a bullet train. While the posh, rich folks live in its first class section, the lower classes exist in squalor and slave-like conditions to the rear. A rebellion is, of course, inevitable! The cast is sometimes unrecognizable – including Chris Evans, John Hurt, and Tilda Swinton in villain mode — and things do get darkly comic and gory. It’s a fun, wild ride. Extras include a making-of documentary, featurettes, cast interviews, a commentary, an animated prologue and more.

Sex Tape

($35.99 Bu-ray, $30.99 DVD)

Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel play a couple who, in an effort to spice up their sex life, learn that sex videos can sometimes end up in the wrong hands. Or, you know, a storage cloud. When will they ever learn? Extras include bloopers, deleted scenes, line-o-rama improv outtakes and more.

Kelly Clarkson Covers Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me': VIDEO

Kelly

The songstress turned in a soulful performance over the weekend of Sam Smith’s breakout ballad about one night stands and the modern (gay) man, saying that she loves the smash hit because it’s “bluesy” and a real “singer song.”

Watch and listen to Kelly’s take, AFTER THE JUMP…
