Antigay State Officials Waste Everyone’s Time With Pointless Marriage Tantrum

Oh, for crying out loud, Kansas and South Carolina officials. Could you please not be huge jerks about having failed to prevent queers from getting married? Just face it: you lost. Now please stop trying to stall.

Here’s the situation: federal courts are in near-unanimous agreement that state marriage bans simply aren’t constitutional. That’s particularly true in states like KS and SC, where Circuit Courts overturned marriage bans and the US Supreme Court allowed that decision to stand.

In other words, the marriage bans have to go. And that’s exactly what’s happened in places like North Carolina and Colorado. State officials there were completely reasonable, and said “oh, we can’t have marriage bans? Well, OK. Go get married, gays, we’re not going to stop you.”

But not so in Kansas and South Carolina. They tiptoed up to the line of overturning their bans, with a few officials actually ordering a start to marriage. But then other officials were like “not so fast” and went to court to defend the marriage bans. Why? What are they hoping to accomplish? Do they really think they can win at this point? Our theory is that this is all a ploy by antigay elected officials to look good in front of their mouth-breathing base next time they’re up for election.

In any case, we’re likely to have marriage in those states sooner rather than later. Courts have ordered more briefing and maybe oral argument in the next few weeks, so we’ll have a final decision soon enough. We’ve just got to be a liiiiiittle more patient.

Teens React to Leg Warmers, Neon Headbands, and Other 80s Fashion Staples: VIDEO

Teen

YouTube users TheFineBros has a new video out with teenagers reacting to the fashion trends their parents rocked back in the 1980s: built-in shoulder pads, neon fitness clothing, leg warmers, headbands, scrunchies, Zubaz, and the infamous fanny pack.

“People would wear this on a daily basis, not just when they’re working out? It just seems like a whole generation that was so lost.”

Man Explains Why He Cut Off His Penis (NSFW)

Man Explains Why He Cut Off His Penis (NSFW)
WARNING: The content and images in this story may be offensive to some readers.

A man who goes by the name of “Gelding” recently opened up about why he decided to cut his penis and testicles off and become a “nullo.” That is, a man who has removed his sex organ.

You can see a NSFW photo of Gelding at the bottom of this story.

“The average person of both sexes will think I’m unbalanced,” Gelding told The Huffington Post in an email. “[That’s] their laymen’s knee-jerk reaction.”

Before he was able to get his penis removed, Gelding said, he had to have several consultations with a doctor.

“In my case, my psychologist took me through a number of long dialogue sessions and a full battery of personality tests to develop a formal profile,” Gelding said. “His finding was that I’d be better off in a ‘whole person’ view after having my penis removed. That was sufficient to sway a urologist to agree to do the procedure. More harm would result in the long term from not doing the procedure than doing it.”

In an interview with Gawker, Gelding explains what people often misunderstand about “nullos” and what the advantages and drawbacks are of joining this club.

On why he decided to have his testicles removed …

I had a baby face in high school, there was one of these bullies and he said “you have a man’s equipment but you’re still a boy” and he squeezed my balls in the shower. He was on the football team, I was on the soccer team showering together and he said “you shouldn’t have such big equipment” so he squeezed my balls and at that point it was just a fantasy for me. So how about getting rid of them for some reason?

On the drawbacks …

One of the most obvious cons is I have to sit to pee, or I have to use one of these female urination devices. It’s an odd funnel shaped device that you can use if there’s only a men’s urinal. Also, sometimes I get urinary tract infections. There’s a shorter path to the bladder through what I’ve got now. So I’ve got to be very careful and keep it clean.

On the benefits …

… my mood has improved dramatically since going nullo. I don’t miss the baggage. I don’t miss the fact that I get into sex with a guy, he expects me to perform in some ways, now he doesn’t have that expectation. In fact, quite a few guys find it very arousing that they don’t have to have that distraction.

Read the entire interview here.

SF Weekly previously described Gelding as a “legendary figure in the eunuch subculture, where he acts as a kind of den mother for the genitally obsessed, someone to whom a man can turn when he decides the cojones need to go.” This was back in 2000, before Gelding had his penis removed in 2011.

As for why he did that, Gelding told Gawker it was ultimately sparked by a sports injury, but that he had thought about having it cut off before.

“For whatever reason I was always embarrassed by the size of what I had. It didn’t fit my personality.”

Gelding has also worked as a “cutter,” someone who castrates men looking to part with their testicles.

“One of the reasons why I am doing this is to help other guys avoid the problems,” Gelding told SF Weekly. “In that respect it is humanitarian. In another respect I will admit to a certain amount of sexual excitement from the whole idea.”

Others have opined on the positives of voluntary castration. In his book, “Castration: The Advantages and Disadvantages,” author Victor Cheney asserts that the surgery can increase life expectancy by thirteen years and improve the immune system.

Cheney, according to the book’s Amazon product description, is a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who spent 25 years researching the surgery and had it done on himself after he contracted prostate cancer.

Megachurch Pastor Brian Houston Clarifies Remarks: Hillsong Church Does Not Support Gay Marriage

Megachurch Pastor Brian Houston Clarifies Remarks: Hillsong Church Does Not Support Gay Marriage

Brian Houston, the pastor of the Australian-based international Hillsong megachurch, made headlines over the weekend for remarks in which he said that the Church is “on the journey” with homosexuality, and needed to figure out “How do we not become a pariah?” in light of the changing landscape of marriage equality in the U.S.

B_houstonHouston’s remarks inspired a large piece in the NYT and media reports elsewhere, which apparently sent out a message which Houston felt obliged to clarify in a statement via the church’s website.

Wrote Houston:

Statement from Brian Houston – Senior Pastor, Hillsong Church
Re: recent media comments on homosexuality

I encourage people not to assume a media headline accurately represents what I said at a recent press conference.

Nowhere in my answer did I diminish biblical truth or suggest that I or Hillsong Church supported gay marriage. I challenge people to read what I actually said, rather than what was reported that I said. My personal view on the subject of homosexuality would line up with most traditionally held Christian views. I believe the writings of Paul are clear on this subject.

I was asked a question on how the church can stay relevant in the context of gay marriage being legal in the two states of the USA where we have campuses. My answer was simply an admission of reality – no more and no less. I explained that this struggle for relevance was vexing as we did not want to become ostracized by a world that needs Christ.

I made the point that public statements condemning people will place a barrier between the church and the world (and I note that Jesus came to save and not to condemn), which is why at Hillsong, we don’t want to reduce the real issues in people’s lives to a sound bite.

This – like many other issues, is a conversation the church needs to have and we are all on a journey as we grapple with the question of merging biblical truth with a changing world.
