Alabama Mother Attempts To Deny Her Dead Son's Husband His Estate

Alabama Mother Attempts To Deny Her Dead Son's Husband His Estate

Pat Fancher

Issues like this are why legally-recognized gay marriage is so important. Alabama man David Fancher was killed in an auto accident in 2011 and left his estate to his husband, Paul Hard. He and Hard were married in Massachusetts just three months earlier after having been a couple for over six years. However, Alabama’s Sanctity of Marriage Amendment denies the validity of their marriage, so Hard is suing the state decrying the amendment as unconstitutional, and thus entitling Hard as Fancher’s legal husband to half of his estate.

Enter David Fancher’s mother Pat Fancher, who has been granted the right to intervene in the case and does not want her son’s name used to advance the cause of same-sex marriage:

I am a devout Christian and I am deeply disturbed that the death of my son David is being used by Dr. Paul Hard to advance the cause of same-sex marriage. I did not agree with all of the decisions that my son made, but I loved him very much and we always had a good relationship. It is wrong for David’s death to be used in this manner.

As such, she has enlisted the aid of the Foundation for Moral Law, who have filed an amicus brief to try and overturn the Tenth Circuit’s strike down of Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage:

The Foundation has an interest in this case because it believes that this nation’s laws should reflect the moral basis upon which the nation was founded, and that the ancient roots of the common law, the pronouncements of the legal philosophers from whom this nation’s Founders derived their view of law, the views of the Founders themselves, and the views of the American people as a whole from the beginning of American history at least until very recently, have held that homosexual conduct is immoral and should not be sanctioned by giving it the official state sanction of marriage.

The Foundation for Moral Law counselor who filed the brief is John Eidsmoe, a wingnut who tried to get the U.S. military to provide “ex-gay” therapy to gay soldiers who would otherwise rape kids. Unsurprisingly, he follows the American Taliban mentality of promoting rule by biblical law.

Study Claims Hollywood Is Not So Gay Friendly

Study Claims Hollywood Is Not So Gay Friendly
Think Hollywood is some sort of queer utopia when members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community are free to be their authentic selves? Think again.

A new study from UCLA’s LGBT think tank Williams Institute interviewed 5,700 SAG-AFTRA members about their experiences with anti-gay sentiment and language within the industry. The study reportedly found that half of performers that identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual “have heard directors and producers make anti-gay comments about actors… and 53 percent of LGBT respondents believed that directors and producers are biased against LGBT performers.”

“Although our industry is heading in the right direction, there is clearly work left to do as certain attitudes and behaviors persist and continue to put pressure on actors to stay in the closet,” Traci Godfrey and Jason Stuart, national co-chairs of the SAG-AFTRA LGBT Committee, stated. “We are confident that this unprecedented study will have profound ramifications for the entertainment industry as a whole. By utilizing the data it contains as it reflects the realities performers face, we can identify the obstacles to equal employment opportunities and full inclusion.”

These findings support similar findings released nearly a year ago by The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists that claimed Hollywood is much less gay-friendly off-screen and over half of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) actors surveyed felt directors and producers were biased against them.

Stevie Nicks On Her Gay Fans, How She’d Come Out If She Loved The Ladies

Screen Shot 2014-09-11 at 9.56.19 AM“I can’t say that I’m so glad that gay people like my music, because I have never looked at gay people as different from any other people.”

Asked what she’d do if she was gay herself:

“The second that I knew, I would have said, ‘OK, everybody, this is how it is, and either you still like me or I don’t care.’ I think that if you are gay, you just have to say ‘It’s great!’”

Ellen Makes Her Gardener So Frustrated He Has to Take His Clothes Off: VIDEO

Ellen Makes Her Gardener So Frustrated He Has to Take His Clothes Off: VIDEO

Ellen3

On yesterday’s show, Ellen announced to the audience that she would sadly no longer be doing ‘Classic Joke Wednesday.’ No one took the news harder than the show’s gardener, who appeared on stage to demonstrate just how frustrated he was with his favorite segment getting the axe.

Luckily, Ellen helped calm him down with some good news later on – which he thankfully reacted to in similar fashion.

Check him out, AFTER THE JUMP

And for those of you who are good with faces (and abs), Ellen’s so-called “gardener,” appears to be Bill Reilich of The Cream Pies – a “group of 4 devilishly handsome lifelong friends who make passionate and hilarious hip hop music together” that we’ve featured on the site multiple times

Stevie Nicks On Her Gay Fans And How She Would've Come Out To The Media

Stevie Nicks On Her Gay Fans And How She Would've Come Out To The Media
Stevie Nicks has long courted a sizable gay fanbase — not that it’s ever occurred to her in any formal way.

“I can’t say that I’m so glad that gay people like my music, because I have never looked at gay people as different from any other people,” the singer-songwriter, 66, tells Out magazine’s Michael Martin. As for what she’d have done if she herself were gay, she added, “The second that I knew, I would have said, ‘OK, everybody, this is how it is, and either you still like me or I don’t care.’ I think that if you are gay, you just have to say ‘It’s great!’”

Nicks is currently enjoying the throes of a comeback, thanks to appearances on “American Horror Story,” a world tour with Fleetwood Mac and a mentoring stint on “The Voice.” She’s gearing up to release “24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault” on Oct. 7.

Of her newly-released song, “Mabel Normand,” which was written about a 1920s silent performer who she described as “the rock star of her time,” Nicks noted, “I wanted it to be something that somebody having a problem with drugs can sit down and listen to 5,000 times. Try and let it be an epiphany for you, 18-year-old person that is doing a lot of coke and smoking heroin and taking ecstasy and is on a dead-end road to hell.”

She also took time to sound off on Night of a 1,000 Stevies, noting, “I read about it and told my dad, ‘It’s a huge party that is thrown by fabulous gay men. They love my clothes and my fashion and my songs, and they all go to it and play my music and lip synch!'”

She added, “One day I’m going to show up, and they are not going to know it, because I’m going to be dressed as the best Stevie ever.”
