A gay<\/a> man<\/a> in Australia\u00a0<\/em>feels totally used and abused after he wasn\u2019t cast in the upcoming season of the hit reality show Married at First Sight Australia.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wil Karroum is a gay<\/a> Muslim man<\/a> living in Melbourne. He says he was \u201cstrung along\u201d by producers for almost half a year before they ultimately rejected him in an email.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand rejection is a part of life,\u201d he tells Daily Mail Australia<\/a><\/em>. \u201cBut I feel like I\u2019ve been played as a fool and had a carrot dangled in front of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

The premise of Married at First Sight<\/em> is pretty straightforward: Random couples<\/a> are paired up. They meet and get married all on their first date. Then audiences watch as the relationships quickly crumble.<\/p>\n

Karroum says he was told \u201cover 1,000 gay<\/a> people had applied\u201d for the show\u2019s upcoming season, so he was confused when producers said they couldn\u2019t find him a match.<\/p>\n

\u201cI foolishly believed the process and I genuinely want to find love,\u201d he laments.<\/p>\n

Karroum also says he filled out countless questionnaires, participated in several phone interviews, and was even invited to meet an executive producer during the casting process.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

He says some of the questions he was asked during that meeting were \u201cvery intrusive\u201d and \u201cseverely personal,\u201d including one about his favorite sexual position, but he went along with it in hopes of finding a husband.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a gay<\/a> Muslim man<\/a> and I get no support from my family,\u201d he says. \u201cI need all the help I can get.\u201d<\/p>\n

To add insult to injury, Karroum says he canceled a pre-planned holiday and postponed moving as he waited to find out whether he would be cast.<\/p>\n

Then he got the devastating email saying he had not been selected to appear on the show.<\/p>\n

Producers say over 10,000 people applied to be on the show, but only 20 or so of them were LGBTQ, not 1000 as Karroum claims.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere weren\u2019t a huge number of gay<\/a> applicants, but we interviewed quite a few individuals from around Australia,\u201d a spokesperson for the show explains. \u201cUnfortunately, we didn\u2019t feel there was a good enough match. We didn\u2019t want to include a gay<\/a> couple<\/a> just for the sake of appearances.\u201d<\/p>\n

QNews<\/a><\/em> reports that Karroum may have actually dodged a bullet by not being cast. Married At First Sight<\/em> featured a gay<\/a> couple<\/a>, Craig and Andy, in 2016, and their marriage was a total disaster.<\/p>\n

The relationship only lasted a few days and resulted in Craig saying the whole experience had been \u201cdownright torture\u201d and left him with PTSD.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think in my wildest dreams that it would have been this tragic,\u201d he said afterwards, adding the he felt \u201cemotionally raped\u201d by the entire experience.<\/p>\n
