Of older adults living with HIV, 49% of new HIV diagnoses in 2015 were among <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">gay<\/a> and <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">bisexual<\/a> <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">men<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, the LGBTQ community has benefited from biomedical interventions such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/resources\/is-prep-right-for-me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pre-exposure prophylaxis<\/a> (PrEP), a medication that prevents HIV when taken as prescribed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yet <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.wixstatic.com\/ugd\/558a5e_d4955ff53a2a4cb39acf185c713c5bd1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">many older adults living with HIV<\/a> do not know their status and are unaware of the current realities of HIV prevention, treatment and care. Additionally, medical providers may be less likely to order routine STD and HIV testing for older Americans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/hiv\/group\/age\/olderamericans\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Per CDC research<\/a>, people ages 50 and older account for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>18% of new HIV diagnoses;<\/li>\n<li>27% of all AIDS diagnoses;<\/li>\n<li>59% of all deaths of persons living with AIDS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Older adults living with HIV face unique challenges for preventing and treating other diseases, as age and HIV both increase the risk for certain cancers, bone loss and cardiovascular diseases. Medications used to treat HIV must also be carefully managed with others taken to treat common age-related conditions, including diabetes, elevated cholesterol and hypertension.<\/p>\n<p>Stigma and shame prevent many older adults &#8212; particularly LGBTQ people &#8212; from talking with their health care providers about these issues due to fear of discrimination.
