AussieBum\u2014 the Australian-based underwear and swimwear brand known for popping up in gay<\/a> adult videos<\/a> and supporting marriage equality down under<\/a> \u2014 has a Twitter account that\u2019s mostly just images of dudes wearing their apparel.<\/p>\n

But an eagle-eyed Twitter user found that this weekend the brand liked seven August 28 tweets from President Donald Trump falsely terming Latin American refugees \u201cillegals,\u201d The Washington Post<\/em> \u201cfake news\u201d and Puerto Rico \u201cone of the most corrupt places on Earth\u201d (second only to Russia and the U.S., right Donald?).<\/p>\n

When Queerty<\/em> reached out to AussieBum for comment, asking why their official account liked these incendiary and somewhat racist tweets, the brand didn\u2019t respond, but merely un-liked the tweets sometime later and eventually issued an apology claiming their account had been \u201ccompromised.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Naturally, it reflects poorly when a brand targeting gay<\/a> men<\/a> supports a president whose rhetoric inspires violence against people of color and whose administration has done more to roll back LGBTQ rights than any other in modern history.<\/p>\n

One Twitter user made a video<\/a> showing the brand\u2019s \u201cliking\u201d of Trump\u2019s tweets:<\/p>\n

There are several possibilities to explain why AussieBum liked Trump\u2019s tweets:<\/p>\n

#1. They were hacked:<\/strong> I mean\u2026 maybe?<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

#2. Social media illiteracy:<\/strong> Some tech-unsavvy Trump-loving employee in charge of AussieBum\u2019s Twitter account mistakenly thought they were \u201cliking\u201d Trump\u2019s tweets from their personal account which shows bad judgment and poor taste.<\/p>\n

#3. The company loves Trump and his policies:<\/strong> But not enough to withstand people drawing attention to it. This too seems unlikely, but hey\u2026 stranger things have happened. Perhaps there\u2019s a plan to start marketing to gay<\/a> Republicans and become the official underwear of Straight Pride?<\/p>\n

Hours later, the company responded to upset Twitter users with the following message<\/a>:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if \u201ccompromised\u201d means \u201chacked,\u201d but it\u2019s odd to think that someone would hack them just to like Trump\u2019s tweets. Perhaps a rival underwear brand sought to ruin their credibility in a bit of underwhelming corporate espionage.<\/p>\n
