Joel Schumacher \u2014 the 79-year-old gay<\/a> director behind the gay<\/a>-ish<\/em> 1987 vampire flick The Lost Boys<\/em> and the 1997 nipples-on-the-Batsuit camp-fest Batman & Robin<\/em> \u2014 recently spoke to Vulture<\/em><\/a> about how \u201cmaking movies is not all blowjobs and sunglasses.\u201d<\/p>\n

The interview covers a lot of topics, but those regarding his gay<\/a> sex<\/a> life have caught people\u2019s eyes because the internet runs on outrage and lust. In particular, his claim that he has slept with 10,000 to 20,000 guys<\/a> over his lifetime.<\/p>\n

Did we mention that we stan? We totally stan.<\/p>\n

Schumacher often jokes, \u201cI\u2019m overpaid, I\u2019m overprivileged, and I\u2019m oversexed,\u201d but he in this interview, he adds, \u201cMost gay<\/a> men<\/a> have many partners because it\u2019s not a very \u2018no\u2019 culture. I started drinking at 9, smoking at 10, and fooling around sexually when I was 11.\u201d<\/p>\n

In high school, he openly dated women<\/a> while secretly sleeping with men<\/a>, but he says he\u2019d been interested in older men<\/a> since his younger years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a married man<\/a> in our neighborhood, but we weren\u2019t having missionary-style sex<\/a>,\u201d Schumacher says. \u201cWe were, as we would say now, messing around.\u201d He adds that a lack of education about gay<\/a> sex<\/a> gave him no preset expectations of what to do.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Schumacher says he never did sex<\/a> work nor does he feel as if he was raped, molested or otherwise abused by the older men<\/a> he slept with.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are very seductive children,\u201d he says. \u201cI was one of them. I was very seductive at a very young age. That doesn\u2019t mean that anybody who was older should\u2019ve said yes or just complied, but I feel in my lifetime I\u2019ve always been a very results-oriented person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, when the interviewer asks Schumacher, \u201cHave you ever guessed the number of partners you\u2019ve had?\u201d Schumacher answers, \u201cIt would be in the double-digit thousands, but that is not unusual. 10 or 20 (thousand).\u201d<\/p>\n

If that sounds like a lot, remember that in his 1991 book, A View From Above, <\/em>heterosexual pro-basketball player Wilt Chamberlain claimed to have slept with over 20,000 women by age 55<\/a>, so Schumacher\u2019s actually an underachiever by that standard.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s do some quick math on that for fun: If Schumacher has been schlepping dudes since age 11 and he\u2019s 79 now, that\u2019s 68 years \u2014 20,000 dudes divided by 68 years equals about 294 dudes a year or roughly six dudes a week \u2026 every week \u2026 for 68 years<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It seems like a lot of that sluttery likely occurred during Schumacher\u2019s \u201clost summer\u201d in the Pines of Fire Island when he spent most of his time stoned, on speed and wearing a Speedo.<\/p>\n

Schumacher says:<\/p>\n

Oh my God, you\u2019re horny<\/a> all the time. And fortunately, it was quite available. You\u2019re just starving for sex<\/a> all the time. Every drug, in my mind, was a pathway to sex<\/a>. So was alcohol. There was an adventure going on, and sex<\/a> would be the cherry on that sundae.<\/p>\n

Now, a lot of gay<\/a> people are getting married, they\u2019re adopting, or they\u2019re having children. There wasn\u2019t any of that when I was young. If you went into a gay<\/a> bar and there were 200 men<\/a> in there, and you said, \u2018Okay, who wants to have a little house with a white picket fence, and a dog, and a child, raise your hands,\u2019 or \u2018Who wants to get laid tonight?\u2019 The concept of a lovely suburban life or raising children was not a high concept.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While the nuclear family is a fine goal, some of us prefer to stay mutants.<\/p>\n
