NEW YORK\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today praised U.S. Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Michael Bennet (D-CO) for\u00a0endorsing a constitutional amendment<\/a>\u00a0that would expand the proposed Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to include explicit protections for other marginalized communities in the United States, including women<\/a>, LGBTQ Americans, people of color, and people with disabilities.\u00a0Speaking with BuzzFeed\u2019s AM to DM<\/a>, Senator Bennet is the first 2020 presidential candidate to support the effort by the ERA Coalition and GLAAD.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, GLAAD announced\u00a0Covering\u00a02020: An\u00a0Amendment\u00a0for Constitutional Equality<\/em><\/a>, a tip sheet for the media to highlight the idea to expand the proposed Equal Rights\u00a0Amendment\u00a0(ERA) to include explicit protections for other marginalized communities \u2013 including people of color, the disabled, and LGBTQ Americans.\u00a0GLAAD\u2019s role in this effort was profiled by\u00a0The New York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0this June as the world celebrated the 50th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots and the birth of the modern-day LGBTQ movement.<\/p>\n

The new Amendment for Constitutional Equality comes as support for the LGBTQ community\u00a0has waned<\/a>\u00a0under the Trump Administration.
