1)<\/strong> The Netflix film Otherhood<\/em>, starring Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette, is available for streaming and in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles today. The film features three mothers visiting their sons, including one who visits her\u00a0gay<\/a> son (Jake Lacy) and his boyfriend (Frank De Julio). Watch the trailer below.\u00a0In other film news, queer actress Aubrey Plaza is set to star in Black Bear<\/em><\/a>, an upcoming thriller by director Lawrence Michael Levine.\u00a0The film is currently in production, and is slated for a 2020 release date.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0<\/strong>The L Word: Generation Q <\/a><\/em>has added out trans actress Jamie <\/a>Clayton<\/a>\u00a0(Sense8)<\/em>, along with Freddy Miyares and Carlos Leal, to the cast of the reboot. The series has also set a premiere date for December 8,<\/a> as well as released new photos at Showtime’s TCA panel today. The updated version of show has a cast that includes\u00a0Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey from the original The L Word<\/em>, as well as new cast members\u00a0Arienne Mandi, Leo Sheng, Jacqueline Toboni, Rosanny Zayas, and Sepideh Moafi.<\/p>\n

3) <\/strong>A trailer has been released for the upcoming musical finale of\u00a0Transparent.<\/em>\u00a0Out trans actresses\u00a0Alexandra Billings, Shakina Nayfack, and Trace Lysette<\/a>, among others star\u00a0in the series finale for the GLAAD Media Award-winning Amazon Prime series, The finale airs on September 27;\u00a0watch the trailer below.\u00a0Out actress, writer and producer Lena Waithe has signed an overall deal with Amazon.<\/a> Waithe already had a two-season commitment with the studio for the horror anthology series THEM,<\/em> and will create and produce other original series under the new deal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

4)<\/strong> <\/em>A teaser for FX\u2019s upcoming season of American Horror Story<\/em><\/a> has been released. Titled 1984, <\/em>this season will explore the horrors of Camp Redwood, and\u00a0premieres September 18 on FX. Watch the trailer below.\u00a0In casting news, out actor Denis O\u2019Hare has joined the cast of Joss Whedon\u2019s upcoming HBO series The Nevers<\/em><\/a>. The science fiction drama also includes a pansexual character named Hugo Swann (played by James Norton). The show is about a gang of Victorian women<\/a> who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world. It\u00a0is set to debut sometime in 2020.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

5) <\/strong> RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race<\/em> season 9 winner Sasha Velour has inked a deal with upcoming streaming service Quibi<\/a> to bring her docu-series Nightgowns<\/em> to the site. Also for Quibi, out gay<\/a> comedian Guy Branum has been signed on to write a \u201cmodern take\u201d on the 2003 romcom How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days<\/em><\/a>, which starred Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.<\/p>\n

6)<\/strong>\u00a0In other TV news, Disney Channel made\u00a0history with the Andi Mack<\/em><\/a> series, which features the network\u2019s first gay<\/a> teen<\/a> couple<\/a>, Cyrus (Joshua Rush) and TJ (Luke Mullen), also known as \u201cTyrus.\u201d Young Justice: Outsiders <\/a><\/em>has confirmed the queerness of one of its male characters<\/a>, Kaldur, as he shares an on-screen kiss with another young man<\/a> in a recent episode. Netflix original Trinkets<\/em><\/a>, which has a queer lead played by out actress\u00a0Brianna Hildebrand,\u00a0was renewed for a second and final season, set for a 2020 release.\u00a0Hulu has also renewed GLAAD Media Award nominated drama\u00a0The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em><\/a> for a fourth season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

7)<\/strong> REVRY, the LGBTQ-themed channel on the free, live<\/a>-streaming television platform Pluto TV<\/a>, has announced its August premiere schedule. Highlights include The Queens <\/em>(August 18), a documentary that follows RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race contestants Alaska Thunderf*ck, Sharon Needles, Jinkx Monsoon, and Katya; Miss Rosewood<\/a><\/em> (August 18), a documentary film about the eponymous extreme performance artist and trans<\/a> advocate; Sink Sank Sunk<\/em> (August 25) about an isolated gay<\/a> young man<\/a> who loses his mother (Oscar-nominated actress Laura Linney), but finds himself, love, and community through synchronized swimming\u2014you can watch the trailer below. 8)<\/strong> K. Flay released a music video<\/a> for her newest single, \u201cSisters.\u201d Watch it below. In other music news, out gay rapper Kidd Kenn has officially signed with Island Records.<\/a> The 16-year-old Chicago native released his first independent project Childish <\/em>last year, and has collaborated with Queen Key, performed with queer singer Kehlani, and is supported by Taylor Bennett and Young M.A.\u00a0Drag Queen Shea Coule\u00e9 released a gorgeous black-and-white video<\/a> for their single, \u201cRewind.\u201d Watch the video<\/a> here<\/a>.<\/a>\u00a0Country group The Highwomen, which includes out singer Brandi Carlile, has released their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” Listen here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

9)\u00a0<\/strong>BROCKHAMPTON, lead by out gay<\/a> rapper Kevin Abstract, has released a new video<\/a> for their single, \u201cI Been Born Again,\u201d which you can watch below.\u00a0Pop group Polartropica released a gender-bending, Grease<\/em>-inspired and queer-themed music video<\/a> to their song, \u201cAnother Life.\u201d You can watch the video<\/a>, the first in a trilogy, here<\/a>. Electronic duo Rituals of Mine, which consists of vocalist Terra Lopez and drummer Adam Pierce, put out a video for their song \u201cBURST.\u201d<\/a> Watch the video<\/a> dubbed \u201cQueer Space Jam for 2019\u201d here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

10)<\/strong> In more music news, out musicians Adam Lambert and Ben Platt<\/a>\"\" have been announced as part of the lineup for the 2019 Global Citizen Festival<\/a>, a free, ticketed event taking place on September 28th<\/sup> in New York City\u2019s Central Park. \"\"11) <\/strong>Out actor Billy Porter will direct the world premiere of The Purists<\/em>, a play written by Dan McCabe<\/a>. The story follows a group of creatives in Queens, New York. The show will begin performances on Friday, August 30; open on Wednesday, September 11; and run through Sunday, September 29 at the Calderwood Pavillion of the Boston Center of the Arts. 12)<\/strong> Brooklyn-based filmmaker Khaula Malik has a new project in the works. The documentary titled The Noble Half<\/em> follows the story of three Pakistani trans<\/a> women<\/a>, Bubbli, Eshaa, and Sharmeeli, as they build a thriving community running a cafeteria for an arts university, and face challenges when the cafeteria is forced to close. The film explores the khwaja-sera<\/em> community in Pakistan, and the lingering marginalization from British colonialism.
