{"id":93346,"date":"2019-07-30T14:26:17","date_gmt":"2019-07-30T18:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gayfriendschat.com\/socialblog\/da-says-he-wont-prosecute-lgbtq-domestic-violence-cases-because-gay-relationships-arent-real\/"},"modified":"2019-07-30T14:26:17","modified_gmt":"2019-07-30T18:26:17","slug":"da-says-he-wont-prosecute-lgbtq-domestic-violence-cases-because-gay-relationships-arent-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gayfriendschat.com\/socialblog\/da-says-he-wont-prosecute-lgbtq-domestic-violence-cases-because-gay-relationships-arent-real\/","title":{"rendered":"DA says he won\u2019t prosecute LGBTQ domestic violence cases because gay relationships aren\u2019t real"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>DA says he won\u2019t prosecute LGBTQ domestic violence cases because <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">gay<\/a> relationships aren\u2019t real<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/queerty-prodweb.s3.amazonaws.com\/2019\/07\/Coffee-County-DA_840x480-670x383.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"670\" height=\"383\"><\/p>\n<p>Craig Northcott is the District Attorney for Coffee County, Tennessee and a self-proclaimed \u201cgood Christian <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">man<\/a>.\u201d But he may soon be without a law license after spouting off his homophobic beliefs at a religious conference and then doubling down on them later.<\/p>\n<p>A letter signed by over 330 lawyers is urging the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility to issue an emergency suspension of Northcott\u2019s law license after he was caught on <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=grq0&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">video<\/a> telling a religious conference that he doesn\u2019t believe the state\u2019s domestic violence laws apply to LGBTQ people because he doesn\u2019t recognize their relationships as being valid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, what do I do with domestic assaults?\u201d Northcott said on the tape. \u201cOn one hand, I don\u2019t prosecute them because I don\u2019t recognize it as marriage. On the other hand, if I don\u2019t prosecute him, then the sinner, the immoral <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">guy<\/a>, gets less punishment. I say, \u2018There\u2019s no marriage to protect.\u2019 So I don\u2019t prosecute it as domestic [assault].\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In response to the leak, Northcott put out a statement saying he personally believes the laws are intended to \u201cpromote and protect the sanction of the institutions of marriage and family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assume that two adults who <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=grq0&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">live<\/a> together that are of the opposite gender are involved in a marital-type relationship absent some other relationship that suggests otherwise,\u201d Northcott wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Evidently, he didn\u2019t get the memo about the Supreme Court ruling on same-<a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a> marriage back in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Northcott then tried arguing that, really, he\u2019s honoring LGBTQ people\u2019s wishes, writing, \u201cIn fact, my intent was in part to honor what I know has been the desire of the LGBTQ community\u2013keeping the government out of their bedrooms.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Tennessee\u2019s domestic violence laws apply to any people who <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=grq0&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">live<\/a> together, regardless of whether they a sexual relationship. This includes roommates, siblings, house guests, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Northcott\u2019s written reply to the complaint removes all doubt as to his current defiance of the rule of law and intent to further engage in conduct beneath the decency required of our profession along with raising serious questions as to his competency and fitness to practice,\u201d the five-page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/6224291-Northcott-Request-for-Suspension.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a>, which was delivered to the Board yesterday, reads.<\/p>\n<p>It continues: \u201cAny attorney who believes he has the power to ignore the decisions of the United State Supreme Court is in violation of his oath and is disqualified from the practice of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The letter also <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=grq0&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">calls<\/a> out things Northcott has posted on Facebook, including describing Islam an \u201cevil\u201d religion and comparing it to the Ku Klux Klan and suggesting only true Christians deserve constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no Constitutional rights. There are God given rights protected by the Constitution,\u201d the DA wrote. \u201cIf you don\u2019t believe in the one true God, there is nothing to protect. No one other than God has given us any rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Northcott argues that the remarks are based on his religious beliefs and are, therefore, protected under the First
