The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) rolled out<\/a> the first wave of its 2019 films \u2014 its Gala and Special Presentations lineup \u2014\u00a0on Tuesday, and once again, several LGBTQ-inclusive titles are amongst the splashy array of films debuting at the world-renowned film-lovers paradise.<\/p>\n

Hustlers<\/em>, which co-stars Transparent<\/em> actress Trace Lysette as well as Lizzo, J.Lo, and others, will make its world premiere at TIFF<\/a>.\u00a0Lysette made the announcement herself<\/a> on her social media channels.<\/p>\n

\"FrankieAmongst the prominent queer films are two that debuted earlier this year at Cannes, Ira Sachs\u2019 Frankie<\/em><\/a> and Pedro Almod\u00f3var\u2019s Pain and Glory<\/em><\/a>. The former, about a French art-house movie star, features Isabelle Huppert, Marisa Tomei, Brendan Gleeson, and Greg Kinnear. And the latter, the 21st film from the gay<\/a> Spanish auteur, stars Antonio Banderas and an ensemble cast that includes Penelope Cruz.<\/p>\n

Pansexual actress Janelle Mon\u00e1e stars in Focus Features\u2019 Harriet<\/em>, the long-awaited film about Harriet Tubman, starring Cynthia Erivo in the titular role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. will present the world premiere of their adaptation of the popular novel The Goldfinch<\/em>, starring Nicole Kidman, Ansel Egort, and Finn Wolfhard, alongside out actors Sarah Paulson and Denis O\u2019Hare. The book features a character called Hobie, who will be played by Jeffrey Wright, who is alluded to being gay<\/a> in the source material.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"ReneeThe world will get its first look at\u00a0Ren\u00e9e Zellweger in Judy<\/em>, featuring the Oscar-winner’s performance as Judy Garland during the last year of her life, in Rupert Goold\u2019s moving adaptation of the stage play\u00a0End of the Rainbow<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Armando Iannucci will premiere The Personal History of David Copperfield<\/em>, which will star out actor Ben Whishaw alongside Dev Patel and Tilda Swinton.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"aTom Hanks will star in Sony\u2019s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood<\/em>, which will feature Tom Hanks taking on the role of\u00a0children\u2019s television host Mister Rogers. The film\u00a0is directed by Marielle Heller, who also helmed last year’s GLAAD Media Award-nominated film\u00a0Can You Ever Forgive Me?<\/em>\u00a0The 2018 documentary Won\u2019t You Be My Neighbor?<\/em>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0also about the popular TV host \u2014\u00a0featured a touching interview with Mister Roger’s Neighborhood<\/em>\u00a0actor Francois (Officer)\u00a0Clemmons, in which he spoke about how kind Fred was to him after he came out to his boss. Interviewer Tom Snyder asked Rogers, “Are you straight?” in an on-camera<\/a> interview for the documentary.\u00a0Clemmons, who is gay<\/a>, says Fred Rogers was not: “I spent enough time with him, if there was a gay<\/a> vibe, I would have picked it up.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Rogers\u2019 sexual orientation was back in the news in 2019, when a new interview with him surfaced<\/a> in which he allegedly said, \u201cWell, you know I must be right smack in the middle. Because I have found women<\/a> attractive, and I have found men<\/a> attractive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other big titles<\/a> premiering at TIFF 2019 include<\/a> the new Joker<\/em> movie in the long-running Batman franchise, Taika Waititi\u2019s Jojo Rabbit<\/em>, Abominable<\/em>, Matt Damon-Christian Bale race car\u00a0film Ford v Ferrari<\/em>, Eddie Murphy starring\u00a0Dolemite Is My Name<\/em>, and Rian Johnson\u2019s Knives Out<\/em>.<\/p>\n
