Out pop star Ricky Martin<\/a> has taken to the streets of his native Puerto Rico to protest against governor Ricardo Rossell\u00f3<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Though Rossell\u00f3 has said he will not seek reelection following a leak of more than 900 pages of text messages in which he used homophobic slurs and expressed many other sentiments insulting to Puerto Ricans, hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets of San Juan on July 22 to show their opposition.<\/p>\n

Ricky Martin joined with thousands of other Puerto Ricans to demand Rossell\u00f3\u2019s immediate resignation. Images of Martin waving a Pride Flag amid the crowds went viral on Twitter, as did Martin\u2019s own tweets regarding Rossell\u00f3.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow proud I am to be Puerto Rican. What strength I felt from my people. We continue in the fight until <\/span>@ricardorossello <\/span>Don\u2019t rule anymore,\u201d Martin wrote in one tweet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey mocked our dead, they mocked women<\/a>, they mocked the LGBT community, they made fun of people with physical and mental disabilities, they made fun of obesity. It\u2019s enough. This cannot be,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n

The \u201cTelegramgate\u201d scandal has ensnared the highest levels of the Rossell\u00f3 government. Rossell\u00f3\u2019s former finance minister referred to Ricky Martin personally in one message, writing \u201cRicky Martin is such a male<\/a> chauvinist that he fucks<\/a> men<\/a> because women<\/a> don\u2019t measure up. Pure patriarchy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rossell\u00f3 himself also referred to a number of fellow politicians and journalists as \u201cc*cksuckers.\u201d<\/p>\n
