Odell Beckham Jr. \u2018Wasn\u2019t Offended\u2019 Over Speculation That He\u2019s Gay: \u2018Love Is Love\u2019<\/b>

In December 2015, then New York Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. got into a series of on-field altercations with Carolina Panthers cornerback Jason Norman culminating in a helmet to helmet clash that would land Beckham with a one-game suspension. According to Beckham and the Giants, the conflict between Beckham and Norman was instigated by Norman who physically threatened Beckham Jr. with a baseball bat and shouted homophobic gay slurs at him<\/a> before\u00a0the game began.<\/p>\n

After that altercation, speculation exploded about Beckham on mostly black gossip sites.<\/p>\n

In a new interview, GQ asked Beckham, who is now a receiver for the Cleveland Browns, how it felt for him to constantly be called closeted or \u2018excited\u2019 when seen in a hot tub photo with teammates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Said Beckham: \u201cI\u2019ve never had an opportunity to talk about this. Honestly wasn\u2019t offended. I\u2019ve never once had no problem with anybody who has their own personal life that they live<\/a>. I have friends who are gay<\/a>. It was almost more funny to me. I almost messed with them even more. It\u2019s like when someone gives me an ultimatum, I\u2019m usually always going to go to the opposite way of what you want me to go. So when they would say that, I would almost mess with them even more. I have no problem with anyone\u2019s sexual orientation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Added GQ: \u201cI feel like posts like that only contribute to homophobia in the black community. The idea that someone must be gay<\/a>\u2014or that being gay<\/a> is in any way shameful\u2014because they\u2019re dancing or have blond hair seems so small-minded.\u201d<\/p>\n

Replied Beckham: \u201cOr because they\u2019re \u2018close with other men<\/a>.\u2019 Even like little videos<\/a> where they see me leaned back or something, they\u2019ll say that I\u2019m looking at a guy<\/a>\u2019s ass<\/a>. And I\u2019m like, \u2018Bro! You don\u2019t even know where my mind is at.\u2019 It was just a lose-lose. They\u2019d see me with a white woman<\/a> and be like, \u2018Why don\u2019t you be with any sisters?\u2019 I have\u00a0no<\/em>\u00a0problem with any race. Love is love. If you\u2019re attracted to somebody, you\u2019re attracted to somebody. There was such a stigma built up, [as though] I don\u2019t like my own women<\/a>. It\u2019s like, no, I don\u2019t like anybody who annoys me. [laughs<\/em>]\u201d<\/p>\n
