1)<\/strong>\u00a0American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel<\/a><\/em>, which depicts the first liberal church in Oklahoma, was released last week and is currently rolling out in more cities.\u00a0In the documentary, defiant Oklahomans rise up against fundamentalist doctrine. The Oklahomans, labeled as \u201cheretics,\u201d redefine modern Christianity in their fight to protect minorities, including the LGBTQ community. Watch the trailer below, and click here to\u00a0see when it will come to your city.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

2) <\/strong>The trailer for gay<\/a> romance film End of the Century (Fin de siglo)<\/em> has been released<\/a>. The debut film debut by Argentinian director Lucio Castro follows the love story of two gay<\/a> men<\/a> across space and time, and is a meditation on the role of technology, missed connections, and fate in modern-day relationships. You can catch the film this tonight at Outfest Los Angeles<\/a>, or when it opens on August 16 at the IFC Center in NYC and September 20 at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles. 3) <\/strong>A clip has been released from documentary\u00a0Queering the Script,\u00a0<\/em>which will also screen at Outfest\u00a0this Saturday.<\/a>\u00a0The clip shows\u00a0Pose\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0American Horror Story<\/em>\u00a0actress Angelica Ross talking about the power of representation. The documentary also features GLAAD’s Megan Townsend. Watch the clip below.\u00a0In other film news, out actress Dot-Marie Jones has been cast as “Big Sexy” in indie comedy Golden Arm<\/em><\/a>, directed by Maureen Bharoocha.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

4) <\/strong>Netflix has released the trailer for the third season of comedy\u00a0Dear White People,\u00a0<\/em>from out creator Justin Simien, and featuring gay<\/a> character Lionel.\u00a0They also announced guest stars upcoming\u00a0season of<\/a>, which include transgender actress Laverne Cox, Blair Underwood, Flavor Flav, Yvette Nicole Brown, and\u00a0Simien himself.\u00a0The third volume is\u00a0due to return on August 2nd<\/sup>. \"\"5)<\/strong>\u00a0Showtime has given a series commitment to as-of-yet untitled musical drama series<\/a>, executive-produced by out songwriter Benj Pasek, his collaborator Justin Paul, and musician Alicia Keys. In other TV news, out Emmy-nominated actor Ben Whishaw has been cast in the upcoming fourth season of acclaimed FX drama\u00a0<\/a>Fargo<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>Whishaw will be playing Rabbi Milligan and will be joined by Chris Rock, Jack Huston, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

6)<\/strong>\u00a0Out musician Elton John<\/a> has an original song on the The Lion King<\/em> soundtrack, which was released digitally July 11th<\/sup> and is\u00a0available on CD today!\u00a0The soundtrack also features the a new version of \u201cHakuna Matata\u201d with out actor Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, JD McCrary, and Donald Glover. 7)<\/strong> In other music news, out singer Hayley Kiyoko<\/a> has released a dance-filled music video<\/a> inspired by the teenage<\/a> witches of The Craft<\/em> and created an LA pop-up experience<\/a> for her new single \u201cI Wish.\u201d Watch the new video<\/a> below, which she also directed. Musician Ingrid Michaelson has released animated lyric videos for all tracks<\/a> on her Stranger Things<\/em>-inspired album Stranger Songs<\/em>. The videos<\/a> include graphic novel-style animation and queer storylines by out queer artists like Jen Bartel (\u201cYoung in Love\u201d<\/a>), Kate Leth (\u201cHey Kid\u201d<\/a>), and Kevin Wada (\u201cMissing You\u201d<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

9)\u00a0<\/strong>Out musician Christine and the Queens and Charli XCX have released<\/a> the video<\/a> for their new single, \u201cGone,\u201d which you can watch here<\/a>. Blood Orange has released a music video<\/a> set in a Black, queer, 18th<\/sup> century France for his new song, \u201cBenzo,\u201d off his most recent mixtape Angel\u2019s Pulse<\/em>, which you can stream here<\/a>. 10) <\/strong>In more music news, out musicians Felix Jaehn and Calum Scott released a video<\/a> for their song \u201cLove On Myself,\u201d which you can watch below. Out musician St. Vincent<\/a> appears in the new video for \u201cHalf Love,\u201d<\/a> the single by group Red Hearse (Jack Antonoff\u2019s newest project with Sam Dew and Sounwave). The rock band PVRIS, led by out lead-singer Lynn Gunn, have been signed to Warner Records\/Reprise and will be touring in the U.S. this fall. 11)\u00a0<\/strong>DC announced a new Birds of Prey<\/em> comic book due in October<\/a>, featuring queer characters such as Harley Quinn, a bisexual<\/a> character, and Renee Montoya, a lesbian<\/a>. The comics follow the lineup from the upcoming film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)<\/em>, starring Margot Robbie as Quinn and Rosie Perez as Montoya. 12)<\/strong> Looking for a new coffee table book? Newflesh: Queerness Beyond the Body, <\/em>edited by Efrem-Zelony Mindell, features a collection of works by 68 artists and essays by Charlotte Cotton and Ashley McNelis, all of which attempt to answer the question of what queerness looks like beyond the confines of the body. Set to be published by NYC independent imprint Gnomic Book in August 2019, the book challenges conventional notions of gender and identity.
