It was the peak of AIDS hysteria, and her intimate photos stood (and continue to stand)&nbsp;in humanizing defiance to the horrible rumors and fears circulating about the <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">gay<\/a>&nbsp;community&nbsp;in mainstream society.<\/p>\n<p>Sohier&rsquo;s father was also <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">gay<\/a>, though he couldn&rsquo;t quite say those words. Looking back on this series, titled &ldquo;At Home With Themselves: Same-Sex Couples In 1980s America,&rdquo;Sohier&nbsp;has come to see her&nbsp;work as a&nbsp;vehicle&nbsp;to connect with her dad.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;After I showed my father the pictures, he teared up, he looked moved, and seemed grateful,&rdquo; she told&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/mobile.nytimes.com\/blogs\/lens\/2014\/10\/16\/same-sex-couples-at-ease-at-home\/?smid=fb-nytimes&amp;smtyp=cur&amp;bicmp=AD&amp;bicmlukp=WT.mc_id&amp;bicmst=1409232722000&amp;bicmet=1419773522000&amp;abt=0002&amp;abg=0\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times<\/a><\/em>. &ldquo;There was a sense of relief.
