In both presidential and midterm elections, candidates running for office often discuss issues impacting marginalized communities &#8212; including LGBTQ people, <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/?mp_code=akftr\">women<\/a>, Latinx and African-American people &#8212; but often voters with disabilities get left out of this broader conversation.<\/p>\n<p>However, people with disabilities are a formidable voting bloc.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">TODAY starts National Disability Voter Registration Week (July 15 &#8211; 19)! We are on a mission to ensure every Disabled American has access in the upcoming elections. Spread the word, get registered, &#038; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/REVUP?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#REVUP<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y6oEdw1B3X\">t.co\/Y6oEdw1B3X<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DisabilityVote?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DisabilityVote<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LEwCz7dgFn\">pic.twitter.com\/LEwCz7dgFn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AAPD (@AAPD) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AAPD\/status\/1150759464104005633?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 15, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In fact, more than <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5622652\/disability-voter-turnout-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">14 million people with disabilities <\/a>\u2014 spanning all disability types and demographic categories including gender, race\/ethnicity, age and religion \u2014 voted in November 2018. <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5622652\/disability-voter-turnout-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>According to <em>TIME<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong>, that turnout surpassed the 11.7 million Latinx voters and came close to the 15.2 million Black people who cast ballots last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not many studies have specifically tracked the voting power of LGBTQ people with disablities, but a report from the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3490559\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prevalence of disability was higher<\/a> among <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/?mp_code=akftr\">lesbian<\/a>, <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">gay<\/a> and <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">bisexual<\/a> adults compared to their straight counterparts. Unfortunately, data surrounding the experiences of transgender and non-binary people living with disabilities was not captured in this study.<\/p>\n<p>People with disabilities are unfairly underserved in the political debate. This is why HRC supports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/blog\/hrc-house-passes-for-the-people-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cFor the People Act\u201d<\/a> (H.R. 1) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/blog\/hrc-urges-congress-to-pass-the-voting-rights-advancement-act-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voting Rights Advancement Act<\/a> (H.R. 4) that would eliminate barriers to voting for everyone, including people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Now more than ever, we need to harness the power of ALL people and get them to the polls.<\/p>\n<p>Voting is the single most important action you can take to hold our leaders accountable. But you can\u2019t vote if you aren\u2019t registered.
