A Georgia couple<\/a> has cried foul over treatment at a Savannah<\/a> mall.<\/p>\n

Victoria Torres and Tuyen Nguyen recently took Torres\u2019 five-year-old nephew to a play area owned by Treehouse Adventures. As they watched the child frolic, Torres put her arm around Nguyen and began to read a magazine. That\u2019s when things got out of hand.<\/p>\n

A daycare chaperone approached the couple<\/a> and ordered them to stop, claiming that their behavior made the children uncomfortable. The argument quickly escalated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were plenty of couples<\/a> there,\u201d says Nguyen. \u201cBut they decided to talk to us about it. We were just sitting there reading a magazine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not only embarrassing, it was hurtful,\u201d Torres adds. \u201cYou\u2019re just being yourself\u2026it\u2019s never happened to me before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nguyen and Torres eventually left after a verbal argument with the chaperone.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo explain to my nephew what had happened and why people do that and why you\u2019re not accepted everywhere you go\u2026 it\u2019s hard,\u201d says Torres.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Ben Saborio, owner of Treehouse Adventures, denies that homophobia played a role in the couple<\/a>\u2019s treatment. Rather, the playground employs a strict no-PDA rule, with a sign posted near the door explaining affection must stay at the \u201cPG-level.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also admits that he ordered the unidentified chaperone to confront the women<\/a>, fearing a \u201clanguage barrier.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a really really tough situation,\u201d says Saborio. \u201cI really struggled. It wasn\u2019t easy. But I welcome anybody. I don\u2019t hate anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cMaybe I didn\u2019t handle it in the right way. My wife wasn\u2019t here. I was afraid to approach them and say something wrong that would be offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the wake of the incident, Yelp has exploded with negative reviews of the playground and accusations of homophobia.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Treehouse Adventures issued a statement on its official Facebook page apologizing for the \u201cunfortunate incident\u201d and calling it an \u201cisolated case\u201d and then denying they ever kicked the couple<\/a> out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand that we were caught on an unfortunate incident involving claims of discrimination against the LGBT community,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cThis isolated case is hurting our business review and reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement continues: \u201cThen the chaperon reported to management (Ben) that a couple<\/a> was being inappropriate; that particular chaperon asks them to stop, and they decided to leave and blame our business. In no way these individuals were ask to leave by management. This was a decision made by them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Torres and Nguyen have not yet decided if they will file a discrimination lawsuit.<\/p>\n
