Todrick Hall Recalls Being an Openly Gay Male Cheerleader in High School, Reveals How Taylor Swift\u2019s \u2018You Need to Calm Down\u2019 Came Together: WATCH<\/b><\/p>\n

Todrick Hall <\/a>sat down for a lengthy interview with Access Hollywood about how Taylor Swift\u2019s \u201cYou Need To Calm Down\u201d video<\/a> came together and how his career as a multi-talent dancer, choreographer, and singer happened..<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like we were just two friends brainstorming who we were going to put on a skit with, which happens to me often,\u201d said Todrick of collaborating on the video<\/a>, which calls<\/a> out anti-LGBTQ haters.<\/p>\n

Added Todrick: \u201cI\u2019m friends with everybody who was in this video<\/a> so this was the most fun, and Taylor said this as well, \u2018this is the most fun I\u2019ve ever had on any set in any video<\/a> in my entire career.\u2019 In fact, the people from her team were like, \u2018Todrick, can you get Taylor to come back to our trailer for hair and makeup\u2019 because she didn\u2019t want to leave the drag queens. She was hanging out in the room with the drag queens all day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Todrick also talked about Swift\u2019s recent LGBTQ activism: \u201cI have never seen her so excited as she is when she\u2019s posting things and seeing her fans go and vote and retweet and sign these petitions\u2026I do think there was a point years ago when this [political activism] would have been scary for her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of the \u201cHappy Meal moment\u201d when Swift and Katy Perry got together, Todrick added: \u201cI thought it was a great idea \u2026 all of her albums it really represents what she\u2019s going through at that time. I\u2019m so able they\u2019re able to bury the hatchet. I know it was very important for them for it to be real if they were going to do it on camera<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Todrick also talked about his days as a contestant on American Idol<\/em>, and his earlier days as a male<\/a> cheerleader in high school: \u201cI remember getting out of my mom\u2019s car and inhaling really big and being like, \u2018this is going to be a really scary thing for you because people are going to make fun of you, people are going to judge you\u2019 and having to be brave enough to walk into school and have people look at me and be the only male<\/a> cheerleader. And I was an openly gay<\/a> black man<\/a> at 14 years old and it was not a cool thing to do at that time. I\u2019m just so grateful that the world is progressing.\u201d<\/p>\n
