Madonna released her fourteenth studio album\u00a0Madame X\u00a0<\/em>today and it\u2019s being praised by critics and fans alike as a bold, albeit bizarre, return to form by the Queen of Pop.<\/p>\n The album immediately shot to #1 on iTunes upon its release.<\/p>\n Slant<\/a> calls<\/a> it \u201ceccentric\u201d and \u201cexhilaratingly batsh*t\u201d and says it \u201csounds like the work of an artist reawakened.\u201d<\/p>\n The Guardian<\/a> labels it Madonna\u2019s \u201cmost bizarre album ever\u201d and says its \u201cmost memorable songs are definitely its strangest.\u201d<\/p>\n And NME<\/a> describes it as \u201cbold, bizarre, and unlike anything Madonna has ever done before.\u201d<\/p>\n In the spirit of Madonna being totally weird (and totally awesome!) on her fourteenth album, we\u2019ve done a roundup of 14 of the weirdest, wackiest songs from her entire catalogue.<\/p>\n Most of these songs are rare b-sides and bonus tracks, with a few deep tracks and unreleased songs thrown in for fun.<\/p>\n Happy listening!<\/p>\n The b-side to Madonna\u2019s 1989 single \u201cCherish\u201d was recently included in the 30th Anniversary edition of Like A Prayer<\/em>. It\u2019s a spooky song about Madonna being seduced in the middle of the night by a ghost with an outrageously large \u201csuper-duper naturally big thing.\u201d Need we say more?<\/p>\n Why this unreleased track from 2008\u2019s Hard Candy <\/em>recording sessions wasn\u2019t included on the final album and \u201cSpanish Lesson\u201d was is anyone\u2019s guess. The chorus reads like a Scruff profile before Scruff profiles were even a thing: \u201cIf you want, I\u2019ll treat you like an animal\/If you want, I\u2019ll feed you like an animal\/If you want, I\u2019ll hunt you like an animal\/If you want, I\u2019ll treat you like an animal.\u201d Woof!<\/em><\/p>\n The bonus track on the Japanese and Australian editions of Madonna\u2019s 2000 album Music,<\/em> this Sanskrit dance song was a follow up to Madonna\u2019s other Sanskrit song \u201cShanti\/Ashtangi,\u201d which appeared on her Ray Of Light,\u00a0<\/em>and is one of those rare instances where the sequel is actually better than the original.<\/p>\n The b-side to Madonna\u2019s 1993 single \u201cRain,\u201d this is actually a remix of another Madonna b-side, \u201cGoodbye To Innocence.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u201cThere are some who believe that I owe them something,\u201d she croons, defiantly. \u201cBut they\u2019re wrong, I owe nothing to no one but myself.\u201d Never before have truer words been spoken.<\/p>\n This mildly off-putting bonus track from the International Super Deluxe edition of 2015\u2019s Rebel Heart<\/em>\u00a0samples the auto-tuned cries of an infant over a hip hop beat as Madonna compares herself to a baby waiting in her crib for her lover to come home and \u201crock me, rock me now.\u201d<\/p>\n Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza and Luis Camacho Xtravaganza were originally recruited by Madonna for her \u201cVogue\u201d music video<\/a> and later tagged along for her\u00a0 Blonde Ambition Tour. Returning the favor, she appeared as a featured artist on their single \u201cQueen\u2019s English,\u201d a musical lesson in \u201990s queer slang. \u201cQueens that read are the best,\u201d she purrs. \u201cAnd they can also get a job and werk.\u201d\u00a0Werk!<\/em><\/p>\n Not to be confused with Anita Ward\u2019s 1979 hit with the same title, this bop was only\u00a0included as a bonus track on the Japanese edition and Target Special Edition of 2008\u2019s Hard Candy<\/em>. In it, Madonna encourages her lover to \u201close your attitude\u201d and \u201cring my bell\u201d before flipping the script and telling the guy<\/a> \u201cyou can\u2019t!\u201d There are also some curious references to members of her family (her daddy, her mama, her sisters, and her brothers) also wanting to ring her bell, and for her to ring their bells, prompting the listener to wonder just what the hell sort of bell she\u2019s talking about.<\/p>\n The eleventh track from Madonna\u2019s 1990 soundtrack album I\u2019m Breathless <\/em>is part remix part duet with actor Warren Beatty and it\u2019s totally bizarro. The tune opens with the sound of a record scratching before a \u201990s dance beat kicks in. Later, it incorporates various Madonna and Dick Tracy<\/em> voice clips, ending with her saying \u201cDick\u201d pitch-shifted into notes that fit song\u2019s melody.<\/p>\n Less bizarre and more just fun, the b-side to 2006\u2019s single \u201cJump\u201d is a cheesy but inspiring dance floor anthem about everyone coming together and making the world a better place that quotes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Fun fact: An alternate version of the song<\/a> leaked online in 2007 featuring completely different vocals, lyrics, and a new structure that\u2019s equally as good.)<\/p>\n The b-side to Madonna\u2019s 1994 single \u201cSecret\u201d is about, as the title implies, getting one\u2019s paramour to let down their guard and have a little uninhibited fun between the sheets. The song\u2019s beat and vocals are probably a bit too jarring for the casual Madonna listener, but for us stans it\u2019s an interesting addition to her \u201990s catalogue.<\/p>\n This club banger from 2000\u2019s Music\u00a0<\/em>takes listeners on a space odyssey through the cosmos and beyond. Backed by laser noises and synthesizers, Madonna sings nonsensical lyrics (\u201cI like to singy, singy, singy, like a bird on the wingy, wingy, wingy\u201d) in a distorted voice. It was included in her Drowned World Tour, where it received an equally weird performance.<\/p>\n Madonna literally takes listeners to church in the b-side to her 1990 single \u201cJustify My Love.\u201d This sultry remix includes passages from the Book of Revelation seductively read over a trip hop beat that somehow manages to be both sexy and biblical at the same time.<\/p>\n A bonus track from 2012\u2019s MDNA,\u00a0<\/em>Madonna is joined by rapper M.I.A. as the two sing about the joys of celebrating one\u2019s birthday\u2026 without consuming any drugs or alcohol. The head-scratching bop has a sort of \u201960\u2019s girl<\/a> group vibe and contains the lyrical gem, \u201cMy type of party there\u2019s no hangover\/We get high and we still stay sober.\u201d<\/p>\n Originally recorded for 2005\u2019s\u00a0Confessions on a Dance Floor, <\/em>this one finds Madonna imagining all the things she might have been had she not been a singer, including a lion, a lemon drop martini, and the President of the United States of America.
