Craig Brooks \u2014 a gay<\/a>, 26 year old employee of\u00a0a Holiday Inn Express hotel in Austin, Texas \u2014 went viral after posting images of himself calmly denying a room to a woman<\/a> who had called him a \u201cf*cking n*gger\u201d when making a reservation over the phone.<\/p>\n

The video<\/a> is priceless, but just as other web users began applauding him, others quickly unearthed a handful of transphobic tweets he had made in the past. Brooks has since apologized for the comments after initially laughing them off.<\/p>\n

After the woman<\/a> showed up in person to try and reserve a room, Brooks said he couldn\u2019t accommodate her. She apologized and tried to explain that she was emotional because of a recent family death.<\/p>\n

When she asked why he couldn\u2019t give her a room, Brooks constantly replied, \u201cIt\u2019s above me now,\u201d and repeatedly referred her to the Best Western hotel next door.<\/p>\n

The woman<\/a>\u2019s family member reportedly tried to convince him, but his management had already told him it was okay to refuse her a room for her racist behavior. Plus, it was the end of his shift so he just stopped listening to them and walked out.<\/p>\n

We reached out to Brooks to hear more about what happened before and after the video<\/a>, but he has yet to respond.<\/p>\n

Shortly after his video<\/a> went viral, other Twitter users dug up old tweets in which Brooks made transphobic statements like, \u201cTrans are the reason why straights think gays<\/a> wanna be girls<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cI have nothing against trans<\/a>. I just don\u2019t agree with it. Get over it. Block me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooks told Buzzfeed News<\/em><\/a>, \u201cThey\u2019re mad lol I said what I said. People are so sensitive. I\u2019m gay<\/a> and I KNOW people will not agree with me being gay<\/a>. I just don\u2019t and will never get trans<\/a>. Period.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a follow-up post, Brooks apologized, writing, \u201cI understand as a gay<\/a> man<\/a> my comments were wrongful and my views on an isolated group of individudals is no excused to make a blanket statement on ALL trans<\/a> people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarding his unflappable behavior in the video<\/a> video<\/a>, Brooks said, \u201cEven if we\u2019re living in a time when we still have to deal with racist, combative white people, just be professional about it. Kill them with kindness. What you\u2019re doing to me is not getting under my skin. Just be unbothered.\u201d<\/p>\n
