The man<\/a> we all aspire to be when we\u2019re older, Sir Ian McKellen, turns 80\u201380!<\/em>\u2013today and to celebrate, some of his closest friends are sharing their fondest memories of the beloved Hollywood icon.<\/p>\n

Bill Condon, who directed the Oscar-winning film Gods and Monsters\u00a0<\/em>starring McKellen,\u00a0share a particularly naughty story with\u00a0The Guardian<\/a><\/em>\u00a0this week.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Condon described McKellen as a \u201cyoung spirit,\u201d as evidenced by the time they went to a Berlin sex<\/a> club together.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cLast year, when we wrapped The Good Liar<\/em> in Berlin, we went to a nasty club to celebrate,\u201d Condon says. \u201cIt was a really, really intense sex<\/a> club but also an art installation in a factory.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI left them there at 4am, Ian barely dressed. It was wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dame Judy Dench, who has known McKellen since they first worked together in 1965, was also interviewed by\u00a0The Guardian.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

When told about last year\u2019s trip to the sex<\/a> club, she replied, \u201cHe went to sex<\/a> clubs in Berlin with people? Oh dash, I\u2019ve missed out!\u201d<\/p>\n

Dench described McKellen as \u201d\u00a0a very good friend to me,\u201d adding, \u201cI know that if I rang he would always make time to see me or be around or to be there with advice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like no other animal I know. A rare beast.\u201d<\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s Patrick Stewart, with whom McKellen has enjoyed a years-long bromance.<\/p>\n

The pair first met in 1977 but didn\u2019t become close friends until 2002 when they both worked on\u00a0X-Men.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t absolutely ready to just fall into his arms,\u201d Stewart recalls. \u201cBut we had adjoining luxury trailers and took to hanging out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe became very good friends. As well as X-Men<\/em>, we have worked together a lot on stage. Sometimes I feel we\u2019re enjoying it too much and the audience don\u2019t quite understand why we\u2019re having so much fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
