It\u2019s always been something that\u2019s informed how I live<\/a> my life and how I seek to care for and support others.\u201d<\/p>\n Of same-sex<\/a> marriage, Morrison said: \u201cIt\u2019s law, and I\u2019m glad that the change has now been made and people can get on with their lives, that\u2019s what I\u2019m happy about.\u201d<\/p>\n Morrison\u2019s dodge was seized upon<\/a> by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, who said he absolutely didn\u2019t believe gay<\/a> people are going to Hell: \u201cI don\u2019t need a law to tell me that. I don\u2019t believe it. I think if you want to be prime minister of Australia you\u2019ve got to be prime minister for all people. I just don\u2019t believe it. The nation\u2019s got to stop eating itself in this sort of madness of division and toxicity. The meanest commentary I\u2019ve seen in the election is actually the propositions that are being advanced that gay<\/a> people are going to go to hell \u2026 I can\u2019t believe the Prime Minister has not immediately said that gay<\/a> people will not go to hell. This country needs to really lift itself and the political debate and coverage needs to really lift itself in the next four days.\u201d<\/p>\n Shorten\u2019s remarks forced Morrison to say he doesn\u2019t think gay people are going to Hell<\/a>: \u201cNo, I do not believe that.\u201d<\/p>\n He later added: \u201cIt is not my view that\u2019s the case. My faith is about \u2026 God\u2019s love is for everybody. That is what I\u2019ve always believed. I found it very disappointing that without even prompting he sought to try and politicize this. And seek to exploit opportunity for it. I thought that was very disappointing. I don\u2019t think that should have a place in this election campaign. People\u2019s faith are people\u2019s faith. I\u2019m not running for Pope, I\u2019m running for Prime Minister.
