Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.<\/p>\n

1)<\/strong> Footage has been released for multiple documentaries screening at this year\u2019s Tribeca Film Festival. For They Know Not What They Do<\/em> focuses on the intersection of religion with gender identity and sexual orientation. The clip here<\/a> follows Sarah McBride, an activist\u00a0working to fight discrimination against transgender people. A preview has also been released for Moving Parts, <\/em>which follows drag queen and country singer Trixie Mattel through the course of her artistic journey. It was also announced that Netflix has acquired the Tribeca premiere doc Circus of Books<\/em>, executive produced by Ryan Murphy.<\/a> The film centers on the gay<\/a> adult store Circus of Books in Los Angeles and the straight, older couple<\/a> who owns the store\u00a0and their three children.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

2) <\/strong>The cast has been announced for the 25th<\/sup> installment of the James Bond<\/em> film<\/a>s. Among those returning is out actor Ben Whishaw as Q. Whishaw is just off of a Golden Globe win for his role in the GLAAD Media Award nominated series\u00a0A Very English Scandal.<\/em> In other casting news, the cast for the queer drama Alia\u2019s<\/em> Birth<\/em> has also been announced, with The Bold Type\u2019<\/em>s Nikohl Boosheri and The Night Of<\/em>\u2019s Poorna Jagannathan as the leads. In the film, a rocky relationship between two women<\/a>\u00a0forces them to spend the night apart. The film will is written and directed by out filmmaker Sam Abbas.<\/p>\n

3)<\/strong> Netflix announced this week that they’ve begun production on a new romcom,\u00a0The Half of It<\/em><\/a>. The film tells the\u00a0story of a shy, straight-A student who helps the school jock woo the girl<\/a> she secretly loves. The film will be directed by out filmmaker Alice Wu (Saving Face<\/em>).<\/p>\n

4) <\/strong>With the release\u00a0Avengers: Endgame,\u00a0<\/i>the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced its first gay<\/a> character, played by director Joe Russo. It’s a small character in a support group who talks about dating a new man<\/a> after his partner died. “We wanted it to be casual, with the fact that the character is gay<\/a> tied into the fabric of the storytelling and representing what everyday life is,” Russo told\u00a0Deadline<\/em><\/a>. Hopefully, this will lead to out LGBTQ superheros in further Marvel films.\u00a0Avengers: Endgame\u00a0<\/em>is playing in theaters worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

5) <\/strong>The 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything!\u00a0Julie Newmar <\/em>will be\u00a0released on blu-ray for the first time just in time for pride month<\/a>, including deleted scenes and a new retrospective\u00a0feature on the film. The film will be available for Blu-Ray purchase\u00a0starting May 28.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

6) <\/strong>A trailer has been released for out creator Russell T. Davies\u2019 new show Years and Years.<\/em><\/a> The sci-fi comedy show stars out actor Russell Tovey as Daniel Lyons,\u00a0and follows his family\u00a0over the course of the next fifteen years through 2034 in a “Britain rocked by unstable political, economic and technological change.\u201d\u00a0There is no premiere date yet announced.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

7)<\/strong> The CW has renewed fourteen\u00a0of the network’s scripted shows for next season, incuding all five of their new freshman series which are all LGBTQ-inclusive. All<\/em><\/a> American, In the Dark, Charmed, Legacies, <\/em>and Roswell, New Mexico<\/em>\u00a0will return for their second seasons in the 2019-20 season, alongside returning inclusive veterans like\u00a0Arrow\u00a0<\/em>(Season 8),\u00a0Black Lightning\u00a0<\/em>(Season 3),\u00a0DC\u2019S Legends Of Tomorrow<\/em>\u00a0(Season 5),\u00a0Dynasty <\/em>(Season 3),\u00a0The Flash<\/em>\u00a0(Season 6),\u00a0Riverdale<\/em>\u00a0(Season 4), and Supergirl\u00a0<\/em>(Season 5).\u00a0In other renewal news, CBS All Access has renewed The Good Fight<\/em> for a fourth season.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

8) <\/strong>Pop star and GLAAD Media Award-nominee Kim Petras released a new single “Broken” on Thursday, and a brand new music video<\/a> to go along with it. Check out the video<\/a> below and dowload the single here.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

9) <\/strong>Out musician Stephanie Rice from NBC’s The Voice<\/em> dropped a new single and lyric video<\/a> for her track\u00a0\u201cPages\u201d on Tuesday. Download or purchase the song here<\/a>, and watch the video<\/a> below!\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

10) <\/strong>Gay rapper Kevin Abstract of the GLAAD Media Award-nominated group BROCKHAMPTON released a new single and music video<\/a> this week for a solo track\u00a0called \u201cPeach.\u201d Watch the video<\/a> below and listen to the song on all platforms. The song comes from his brand new album ARIZONA BABY<\/em> which includes the tracks Abstract released this month on his\u00a0ARIZONA baby<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Ghettobaby<\/em>\u00a0EPs alongside new songs. ARIZONA BABY<\/em> is Abstract’s first full-length solo album since his 2016 album\u00a0American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

11)<\/strong> The Tony Awards announced on Thursday that they would be giving a lifetime achievement award to out playwright Terrence McNally<\/a>. In other awards news, the winners of the Webby Awards were announced on Tuesday. Winners include bi<\/a> singer Kesha for the editing of her \u201cI Need a Woman to Love\u201d video<\/a>, Billy on the Street\u2019<\/em>s Emma Stone episode, The Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/em>, Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em> and Pod Save the People. <\/em>See the full list of winners here.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

12)<\/strong>\u00a0The new\u00a0documentary\u00a0Libertad<\/em> is currently seeking funding assistance. The film follows Alejandra, an indigenous, transgender woman<\/a> from Oaxaca, who is determined to reunite with her mother and explores some of the discrimination she faces and how her multiple intersecting marginalized identities shape her experience.
