Stephen Colbert Mulls Over All the \u2018Crazy Sh*t\u2019 in the Mueller Report: WATCH<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cI want you to know that today the Mueller Report was released, and I\u2019m here to tell you you\u2019re not crazy,\u201d said Stephen Colbert at the opening of his Thursday night show.<\/p>\n

Colbert launched some scathing commentary on William Barr\u2019s pre-release press conference: \u201cIf you got nothing to hide, why do you have to set up the report first?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBarr really sounded like he was channeling the president,\u201d Colbert said, ripping the attorney general for his explanation that what looks like obstruction was merely Trump lashing out because he was frustrated and upset over the investigation: \u201cWait, when did feelings become a get out of jail free card? (In lawyer voice) \u2018Sure my client\u2019s actions might look like arson, but might I remind you, he was feeling tense and who doesn\u2019t relax in front of a roaring fire?’\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert then pointed out that the report was delivered to Congress on CDs: \u201cI\u2019m disappointed. Everyone knows obstruction sounds more authentic on vinyl.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the revelations in\u00a0the redacted Mueller Report<\/a> was Trump\u2019s reaction when he heard from then Attorney General Jeff Sessions that a Special Counsel had been appointed to investigate him.<\/p>\n

Said Trump, according to \u201cOh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I\u2019m fucked<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quipped Colbert: \u201cThat\u2019s actually what I said at the beginning of your<\/em> presidency. \u2026 I\u2019m guessing that\u2019s now how an innocent person reacts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert then pointed out that at his press conference, Barr \u201ctold a bald-faced lie\u201d about Mueller\u2019s reasoning for not making a call<\/a> on whether Trump obstructed justice.<\/p>\n

Barr also said that Mueller did not indicate that his purpose was to leave the decision to Congress, adding \u201cI hope that was not his view.\u201d<\/p>\n

Added Colbert: \u201cOh I hope so, too. Because if he said that, and then you made the decision anyway, that would be, in the words of James Madison, from the Federalist Papers No. 62, \u2018Super f**ked up.\u2019 I mean it would really make Barr look like a feckless stooge if Mueller had written on page 220, \u2018The conclusion that Congress may apply the obstruction laws to the President\u2019s corrupt exercise of the powers of office accords with our constitutional system of checks and balances and the principle that no person is above the law.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert came back after a break for more Mueller monologue.<\/p>\n

He tackled the report\u2019s assertion that Trump\u2019s efforts to obstruct the investigation were unsuccessful because many people declined to carry out his requests.<\/p>\n

Said Colbert: \u201cIt\u2019s a shock<\/em> to find out both which associates declined to carry out his orders, and what they declined to do. Like his former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who did not deliver the president\u2019s message to Attorney General Jeff Sessions that he should confine the Russia investigation to future election meddling only.\u201d<\/p>\n
