Seth Meyers Destroys the Dumbest GOP Congressman on the House Oversight Committee: WATCH<\/b><\/p>\n

As part of a lengthy Closer Look on Thursday night, Seth Meyers<\/a> destroyed what Rolling Stone<\/em> this week called<\/a> \u201cthe dumbest moment in Congressional history.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRepublicans in Congress keep trying to defend Trump from Democrats but their efforts keep falling flat, and the dumbest example of that came this week during a hearing on Trump\u2019s climate policies,\u201d explained Meyers.<\/p>\n

At that hearing, former Secretary of State John Kerry and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) had an exchange that prompted the most face-palmingly idiotic assertion by a GOP congressman we\u2019ve seen this year (and we\u2019ve seen a lot).<\/p>\n

Said Meyers: \u201c[Massie] tried to question Kerry\u2019s credentials, specifically his college degree. Kerry has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a common degree that lots of people have, and yet Massie thought it was some kind of brilliant gotcha\u00a0<\/em>to point that out, resulting in one of the dumbest lines of questioning in the history of American politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSaid Massie: \u201cIt sounds like you\u2019re questioning the credentials of the president\u2019s advisers currently, but I don\u2019t think we should question your credentials today. Isn\u2019t it true you have a science degree from Yale?\u201d<\/p>\n

Replied Kerry: \u201cBachelor of Arts degree.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs it a\u00a0political<\/em> science degree?\u201d asked Massie.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, political science,\u201d replied Kerry.<\/p>\n

Asked Massie: \u201cSo, how do you get a Bachelor of Arts in a science<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n

Explained Kerry: \u201cWell, it\u2019s a liberal arts education and degree\u2026 it\u2019s a Bachelor\u2026,\u201d <\/p>\n

Asserted Massie: \u201cOK, so it\u2019s\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>really science. So, I think it\u2019s somewhat appropriate that someone with a pseudoscience degree is here pushing pseudoscience in front of our committee today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerry, after a pause of stunned silence: \u201cAre you serious?<\/em> I mean, this is really a serious happening here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is,\u201d nodded Meyers, grinning. \u201cUnfortunately, I\u2019m sorry to say, it is<\/em> a serious happening. And that is the perfect phrasing, because this whole Trump era feels like a horror movie called A Serious Happening. <\/em>This is an actual member of Congress who can\u2019t wrap his head around the fact that you can get a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science! Despite the fact that he himself has a degree from MIT!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, why stop there, Massie? \u2018Senator Kerry, you\u2019re a married man<\/a>, correct? Then please explain to us how you could possibly have a \u2018bachelor\u2019s\u2019 degree?’\u201d<\/p>\n
