Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson refuses to reinstate housing protections for LGBTQ Americans<\/p>\n

NEW YORK \u2013\u00a0GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today slammed President Trump and his administration for refusing to reinstate essential housing protections for LGBTQ Americans across the nation,\u00a0marking the 100th\u00a0time<\/a>\u00a0the Trump Administration has targeted the community since the president took office in 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In what\u00a0The Advocate<\/em><\/a>\u00a0called a \u201ctesty\u201d exchange during a House Appropriations hearing this week, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson refused to acknowledge that a simplification of housing guidelines (removing LGBTQ Americans as a protected class) actually targeted and prevented LGBTQ Americans, specifically transgender Americans, who wish to attain quality housing opportunities \u2013 including shelters for the homeless.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a systematic and sinister erasing of LGBTQ protections and policies happening at the hands of this Administration,\u2019\u201d\u00a0said Zeke Stokes, Chief Programs Officer at GLAAD.\u00a0\u201cNow more than ever, it\u2019s vital LGBTQ Americans and\u00a0marginalized communities raise their voices and tell their stories. The LGBTQ community will not go into hiding, and we will not be silenced.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump Administration\u2019s refusal to reestablish LGBTQ Americans as a protected class for housing guidelines marks the 100th\u00a0time the Trump Administration has attacked the LGBTQ community in policy or rhetoric.
