Chicago Mayor and Police Superintendent Slam Dismissal of Jussie Smollett Charges as \u2018Whitewash of Justice\u2019 \u2014 WATCH<\/b><\/p>\n

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson slammed the dismissal of charges against Empire actor Jussie Smollett.<\/p>\n

Said Johnson: \u201cI think this city is still owed an apology. \u2026 I\u2019ve heard that they wanted their day in court with TV cameras<\/a> so American could know the truth but now they chose to hide behind secrecy and broker a deal to circumvent the judicial system.\u201d<\/p>\n

EARLIER<\/strong>: Prosecutors Drop All Charges Against \u2018Empire\u2019 Actor Jussie Smollett<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Said Emanuel: \u201cI\u2019d like to remind everybody a grand jury indicted this individual based on only a piece of the evidence that the piece had collected. A grand jury actually brought the charges.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOn financial costs the $10,000 doesn\u2019t even come close\u201d to what the city spent on this case.<\/p>\n

Emanuel then spoke on the \u201cethical costs\u201d as a congressman who was in office when the Matthew Shepard hate crimes law was passed.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo use those laws and the prinicples and values behind [them] to self promote your career is a cost that comes to all the individuals \u2013 gay<\/a> men<\/a> and women<\/a> who someday will come forward and say they were the victim of a hate crime and will now be doubted \u2026 and he did this all in the name of self promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Said Emanuel: \u201cThis is a whitewash of justice<\/em>. A grand jury could not have been clearer. \u2026 Where is the accountability in the system? You cannot have because of a person\u2019s position, one set of rules apply to them and another set of rules apply to everybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of the judge\u2019s decision none of the evidence will ever be made public \u2013 this is without doubt a whitewash of justice. \u2026 It is wrong. Full stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day it\u2019s Mr. Smollett who committed this false claim on two individuals and on the city,\u201d added Emanuel.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day it\u2019s Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax,\u201d added Johnson.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Smollett is still saying he is innocent,\u201d Emanuel added. \u201cStill running down the Chicago police department. How dare him! How dare him!<\/em> \u2026 Still no sense of ownership of what he\u2019s done. \u2026 This is a person now that has been let off scot-free with no sense of culpability of the moral and ethical wrong of his actions.\u201d<\/p>\n
