NEW YORK<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today issued the following media backgrounder to expose Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro\u2019s history of attacking LGBTQ Brazilians in policy and rhetoric ahead of his scheduled meetings with President Donald Trump on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is a tyrant who has condoned violence against LGBTQ people, even if it means death,\u201d\u00a0said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD<\/strong>. \u201cAmericans should be disturbed that the President of the United States is holding meetings with Bolsonaro and choosing to set a dangerous precedent by\u00a0normalizing an anti-LGBTQ tyrant.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Bolsonaro has a long record of attacking LGBTQ Brazilians. From claiming he\u2019d rather have his\u00a0son killed<\/a>\u00a0than for him to be LGBTQ to advocating for violence against LGBTQ Brazilians \u2013 the Brazilian president\u2019s toxic rhetoric appears to be similar to that of President Trump, who has attacked LGBTQ Americans more than 97 times since taking office.
