<\/p>\nTen Women Leaders Breaking Barriers for Bisexual Representation<\/b>
\n<\/p>\n
Post submitted by Helen Parshall, HRC Digital Media Manager, and Rokia Hassanein, HRC Content Producer <\/em><\/p>\n Over the past year<\/a>, we have seen more and more celebrities come out as bisexual<\/a>, pansexual, queer and sexually fluid — breaking down barriers and inspiring others to live<\/a> their truths.<\/p>\n Studies show<\/a> that as many as half of the lesbian<\/a>, gay<\/a>, bisexual<\/a> and queer population identify as bisexual<\/a> — making the bisexual<\/a> community the single largest group in the LGBTQ community.<\/p>\n Yet far too often, the unique needs of the bisexual<\/a> community go unseen and unheard in LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ spaces alike.<\/p>\n In honor of Bisexual Health Awareness Month<\/a> and Women\u2019s History Month<\/a>, we celebrate some of the incredible people leading at the intersection of these identities. This month is a vital opportunity to shine a light on how much work we have yet to do to achieve full equality — and better still, achieve equality that does not tie identity solely to male<\/a>-female<\/a>, gay<\/a>-straight binaries. \u00a0<\/p>\n 1. Robyn Ochs <\/strong><\/p>\n Robyn Ochs remains an influential bisexual<\/a> leader who is looked up to by many in the bi<\/a> community.An international speaker and editor of Bi Women Quarterly<\/a> and two anthologies — \u00a0\u201cGetting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World\u201d and \u201cRECOGNIZE: The Voices of Bisexual Men\u201d — Ochs shines light on existing bi<\/a> stereotypes and dismantles them.<\/p>\n Checking into a hotel, clerk compliments me on my earrings. Lauren Beach <\/strong><\/p>\n As we mark Bisexual Health Awareness Month, experiences among bi<\/a> people in health care settings remain rarely discussed. Activists including LGBTQ health researcher Lauren Beach are working to change that.
