GLAAD Condemns William Barr Confirmation as Nation\u2019s Next Attorney General<\/b><\/p>\n

GLAAD CEO: \u201cBarr\u2019s confirmation today reminds LGBTQ Americans once again that the Trump Administration is no friend to us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Barr once criticized Georgetown University for allowing LGBTQ groups on campus, suggested the LGBTQ community led to America\u2019s decline<\/em><\/p>\n

NEW YORK<\/strong> \u2013 GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today condemned the U.S. Senate for confirming William Barr to be the next Attorney General of the United States. Barr was nominated by President Trump last December, and much like his predecessor Jeff Sessions<\/a>, has a vicious anti-LGBTQ history<\/a> \u2013 even suggesting that equality for LGBTQ Americans has \u201cled to America\u2019s decline.\u201d During his Senate confirmation testimony, he defended the government\u2019s idea to hold asylum seekers living with HIV<\/a> in prison camps and hinted that LGBTQ people would not be protected under the Civil Rights Act of 1964<\/a> should he be confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s alarming and upsetting that a person citing LGBTQ people as a reason for the decline of the United States will now serve as the nation\u2019s top law enforcement official,\u201d said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. <\/strong>\u201cThere\u2019s little doubt that William Barr will carry on this Administration\u2019s ongoing efforts at rolling back the progress LGBTQ Americans have made in recent years. This confirmation today reminds us once again that the Trump Administration is no friend to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
