Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Plans To Eliminate ALL LGBTQ Content From Schools<\/b><\/p>\n

President Jair Bolsonaro is fulfilling his campaign promise to oust the \u201cLeft\u201d from Brazilian life by taking his anti-leftist ideological war to classrooms and universities, \u201ccausing angst among teachers and education officials who say the government wants to fight an enemy that doesn\u2019t exist\u201d according<\/a> The Albuquerque Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBolsonaro and top officials have announced plans to revise textbooks to excise references to feminism, homosexuality and violence against women<\/a>, say the military will take over some public schools and frequently bash Paulo Freire, one of Brazil\u2019s most famous educators, whose ideas had worldwide influence,\u201d the AJ<\/em> continued.<\/p>\n

In January, following Bolsonaro\u2019s inauguration, the country\u2019s Education Ministry reportedly dismantled its diversity department and provided textbook publishers with new guidelines, eliminating any and all references to topics like feminism, gender, transgender, and \u201chomosexuals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Bolsonaro, who once declared, \u201cI\u2019m homophobic, with pride\u201d, pledged\u00a0to review the content of the country\u2019s national high school exam to remove questions he finds \u201ccorrupting the youth\u201d according to <\/a>The Independent<\/a><\/em>. He made the announcement in a YouTube video<\/a>\u00a0after seeing a question from last year\u2019s exam on a \u201csecret dialect used by gays<\/a> and transvestites\u201d called Pajuba, which mixes Portuguese and West African languages. It\u00a0is mostly used in Afro-Brazilian religions but has also been adopted by the Brazilian LGBT community.\u201d<\/p>\n
