Why Is Bret Easton Ellis Trolling Black Panther?<\/b><\/p>\n

Black Panther has received acclaim from all four realms as they say and although not a perfect movie by any means it certainly doesn\u2019t seem to deserve the vitriol that openly gay<\/a>\u00a0American Psycho<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>creator\u00a0Bret Easton Ellis<\/a>, has doled out.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s praise\u00a0has served as inspiration for him to revive a peculiar criticism tactic that previously saw the once-acclaimed writer quite dumbly attributing\u00a0Hurt Locker\u00a0director Kathryn Bigelow\u2019s own awards success to being a \u201chot woman<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

During a recent episode of his podcast, as\u00a0transcribed<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0The Wrap<\/a><\/em>,<\/a> Ellis\u2014who recorded the episode before the nominations announcement\u2014questioned\u00a0Black Panther<\/em>\u2018s quality.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo superhero movie has ever gotten a Best Picture nomination,\u201d Complex<\/a><\/em> reported<\/a>. \u201cBut believe me,\u00a0Disney is doing everything in its power to make sure this happens. Even though there is no one out here in La La Land I\u2019ve met who thinks\u00a0Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0is that good as a movie. Yet, as a piece of representation, they are supporting it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ellis went on to say that he felt that the assessment of Coogler\u2019s film as a \u201cgrand piece of cinematic art\u201d\u00a0was being \u201cshoved down our throats\u201d by press and studios alike. \u201cRepresentation is so important to them,\u201d he\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0on the podcast, which is only available to subscribers for a fee.\u00a0\u201cAnd with a huge fatuous inclusivity and diversity push. What the most flattering pose might be in the moment\u2014as if inclusivity and diversity have anything to do with awarding a movie\u2019s merits. Yes, this is the culture the Oscars are pushing, and it is rather nauseating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Complex <\/em>noted that Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0currently holds\u00a0a 97 percent average<\/a>\u00a0on Rotten Tomatoes. The Ellis-penned 2016 film\u00a0The Curse of Downers Grove<\/em>, meanwhile,\u00a0is presently at 15 percent.<\/a><\/p>\n
