\u2018Empire\u2019 Actor Jussie Smollett Hospitalized in Chicago After Violent Racial Homophobic Attack<\/b><\/p>\n

Empire<\/em> actor Jussie Smollett was hospitalized and treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital\u00a0in Chicago after a violent attack which police are reportedly investigating as a possible hate crime.<\/p>\n

TMZ confirmed the attack<\/a>, which happened around 2 am on Tuesday morning, and reported that law enforcement sources told them the Chicago Police Department is investigating the disturbing incident as a possible hate crime: \u2018Sources directly connected to Jussie tell TMZ, the actor arrived in Chicago from New York late Monday, and at around 2 AM he was hungry and went to a Subway. We\u2019re told when he walked out, someone yelled, \u201cAren\u2019t you that f***ot \u2018Empire\u2019 n*****?\u201d\u00a0 The 2 men<\/a> \u2014 both white and wearing ski masks \u2014 viciously attacked Jussie as he fought back, but they beat him badly and fractured a rib. They put a rope around his neck, poured bleach on him and as they left they yelled, \u201cThis is MAGA country.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n

While the MAGA details and the nature of the chemical substance are not confirmed yet by an official report, HuffPost front page editor Philip Lewis and MSNBC producer Michael Del Moro tweeted out a statement from Chicago PD on the incident. <\/p>\n

The statement says the attackers poured a \u201cchemical substance on the victim\u201d after yelling out racial and homophobic slurs. They then wrapped a rope around the victim\u2019s neck and fled the scene.<\/p>\n

The website ThatGrapeJuice.net first reported the incident<\/a>, saying that Smollett received a letter in the mail with a note on it which read \u201cyou will die black fag\u201d. The site added that Smollett was attacked \u201cby two men<\/a> in ski-masks.\u00a0Both of whom placed a noose around his neck.\u201d<\/p>\n
