Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse<\/em> has two things we love: Spidey and comedian John Mulaney.<\/p>\n

The Marvel and SONY Studios animated blockbuster was a sleeper hit and is now nominated for two Oscars: one for Best Animated Film.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s domestic total<\/a> as of January 27, 2019 is\u00a0$169,040,116.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s staying power became apparent around Christmas when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse<\/em>\u00a0saw its domestic weekend box office grow from the\u00a0pre-Christmas\u00a0to the post-Christmas frame. \u201cWith so many other huge movies out there right now competing for consumers\u2019 wallets, it would be easy for\u00a0Spider-Verse<\/em>\u00a0to get lost in the shuffle\u201d said <\/a>Cinemablend<\/a><\/em> on January 2, 2019.<\/p>\n

Spider-Verse<\/em>, which posted the best-ever December opening for an animated film, is not only Spidey\u2019s fresh translation, but its larger message of including the other.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis film is subversive and self-referential and meta \u2014 and funny! There\u2019s so much ridiculous and wonderfully silly comedy in the movie \u2014 but what makes it work is that it\u2019s profoundly emotional. It has a giant beating heart about these very diverse and lonely Spidermen from their different homes in the Spider-verse coming together to meet each other,\u201d Kristine Belson, Sony Pictures Animation president, told\u00a0<\/a>Variety<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She points to the film\u2019s oft-repeated tagline [which came from co-creator Stan Lee]: anyone can wear the mask<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the film multiple versions of Spider-Man from alternate parallel universes meet including Peter Porker: The Amazing Spider-Ham (voiced by Mulaney).<\/p>\n

Mulaney talked to Jimmy Fallon about his super secretive and profanity-laced outtakes while voicing Spider-Ham on The Tonight Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
