Pro-Life #MAGA Hat Wearing Catholic School Kids Harass Native American Vietnam Vet At Inaugural Indigenous Peoples March In Washington, D.C.: WATCH<\/b><\/p>\n

A group of mostly teen<\/a> age high school students wearing \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d (#MAGA) hats harassed a Native American Vietnam War veteran in front of the Lincoln Memorial during Friday\u2019s first Indigenous Peoples March.<\/a><\/p>\n

The teens<\/a> were visiting Washington D.C.\u00a0as part of a field trip from the Covington Catholic school in Kentucky.<\/p>\n

It was probably fait accompli that an encounter like this would occur since ironically the Indigenous People\u2019s March was scheduled at the same time as the pro-life rally March For Life, and\u00a0Covington Catholic\u2019s website shows <\/a>that students and faculty attended the rally. <\/p>\n

After the video<\/a> went viral and celebrities like Patton Oswalt and Ava Duvernay tweeted at the school\u2014Covington made their Twitter account private.<\/p>\n

The gentleman being harassed is Nathan Phillips, according to\u00a0<\/a>Indian Country Today\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Today<\/em> said that Phillips is an Omaha elder who is also a Vietnam Veteran and former director of the Native Youth Alliance. He is also a keeper of a sacred pipe and holds an annual ceremony honoring Native American veterans in the Arlington National Cemetery.<\/p>\n

In the video<\/a> below Phillips responds to the harassment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard them saying \u2018build that wall, build that wall.\u2019 This is indigenous land, you\u2019re not supposed to have walls here. We never did for a millennia. We never had a prison; we always took care of our elders, took care of our children, always provided for them, taught them right from wrong. I wish I could see that energy\u2014put that energy to making this country really, really great.\u201d<\/p>\n
