A month away from the 91st<\/sup> Annual Grammy Awards, it\u2019s exciting to note how many LGBTQ people are up for the awards this year<\/a>. One of the most thrilling nominations is for trans<\/a> singer and songwriter Teddy Geiger, who is nominated in Song of the Year for her work\u00a0on Sean Mendes\u2019 \u201cIn My Blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is not the first chart-topper that Geiger has penned, having written hits for One Direction, Christina Aguilera, and James Blunt, in addition to being a go-to writer for Mendes. Before she was a sought-after songwriter and producer, Geiger made her name as a teen<\/a> pop star in the mid-2000s, with hits such as \u201cFor You I Will (Confidence)\u201d and a debut album that made it to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n

In fall 2017, Geiger wrote on Instagram that she was transitioning, and began to live<\/a> publicly as a trans<\/a> woman<\/a>. This came with support from Mendes and the whole producing team, who encouraged her to live<\/a> as her authentic self. Since then, she has continued to work with the best in pop music, released a new album LillyAnna<\/em>, got engaged to Schitt\u2019s Creek\u2019s <\/em>Emily Hampshire, and is now a Grammy-nominated writer.<\/p>\n

A segment on Geiger aired CBS This Morning<\/em> today, where she spoke about her professional and personal journey that lead her to this point. \u201cIt\u2019s cool for people to be able to see that and have more artists and people who are trans<\/a> doing things and being visible,\u201d she told CBS of the nomination.
