In the bit, Hart makes a \u201cjoke\u201d about not wanting a gay<\/a> son, saying,\u00a0\u201cOne of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay<\/a>. That\u2019s a fear. Keep in mind, I\u2019m not homophobic. I have nothing against gay<\/a> people. Be happy. Do what you want to do. But me, being a heterosexual male<\/a>, if I can prevent my son from being gay<\/a>, I will.\u201d<\/p>\n Hart continued, telling the audience he\u2019s worried about \u201chandling his son\u2019s first gay<\/a> moment correctly,\u201d saying that when your kid has his \u201cfirst gay<\/a> moment\u2026you gotta nip it in the bud right then.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHey, stop! That\u2019s gay<\/a>! Quit it!\u201d, says Hart, to gales of laughter. Hart then goes on to describe seeing another boy<\/a> \u201cgrinding on [his] son\u2019s ass<\/a>,\u201d telling the audience that he \u201cpanicked\u201d and \u201cknocked them both down.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n In a Reddit AMA in 2014, Hart was asked<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cYou find a lot of comedy in male<\/a> insecurities, including a famous bit where you express fear that your son will be gay<\/a>. You praised Frank Ocean at the MTV VMAs in 2012 for having the courage to come out, and recently said in an interview that you don\u2019t do jokes any more about gays<\/a>. What changed your mind on this subject of humor?\u201d<\/p>\n He replied:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s just a sensitive topic and I respect people of all orientations. So, it\u2019s just best left alone.\u201d<\/p>\n He later told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s about my fear. I\u2019m thinking about what I did as a dad, did I do something wrong, and if I did, what was it? Not that I\u2019m not gonna love my son or think about him any differently. The funny thing within that joke is it\u2019s me getting mad at my son because of my own insecurities \u2014\u00a0I panicked. It has nothing to do with him, it\u2019s about me. That\u2019s the difference between bringing a joke across that\u2019s well thought-out and saying something just to ruffle feathers.\u00a0I wouldn\u2019t tell that joke today, because when I said it, the times weren\u2019t as sensitive as they are now. I think we love to make big deals out of things that aren\u2019t necessarily big deals, because we can. These things become public spectacles. So why set yourself up for failure?\u201d<\/p>\n In 2015, Hart said he would never play a gay<\/a> role\u00a0 because of his own insecurities,\u00a0revealing that he turned down a spot in 2008\u2019s\u00a0Tropic Thunder<\/em>\u00a0because the role was for a \u201cflagrant\u201d gay<\/a> character.<\/p>\n Said Hart:\u00a0\u201cNot because I have any ill will or disrespect, it\u2019s because I feel like I can\u2019t do that because I don\u2019t think I\u2019m really going to dive into that role 100%. Because of the insecurities about myself trying to play that part.
