Schmid spoke to Kelly about receiving his diagnosis, what it meant to his parents and those around him, and the ongoing battle to fight perceptions about people living with HIV.<\/p>\n<p>Said Schmid to Kelly: \u201cThis stigma is real. And it\u2019s unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Said Schmid in a Facebook post: \u2018When I was 15 I first came to NYC and remember seeing Rockefeller Center and the\u00a0NBC\u00a0peacock and\u00a0NBC News\u00a0sign and saying to myself, \u201cone day I\u2019m going to be on The Today Show\u201d. Little did I know 23 years later I would be on The Today Show with\u00a0Megyn Kelly TODAY\u2026talking about something much bigger than myself (for once)! The fight against HIV stigma. Hopefully I can help start a new conversation about what it means to be HIV+ in 2018.
