The Miseducation of Cameron Post<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Chloe Grace Moretz, the star of gay<\/a> conversion therapy film The Miseducation of Cameron Post<\/em><\/a>, blasted\u00a0Boy Erased<\/em>, another gay<\/a> conversion therapy film set to be released, because it\u2019s \u201cit\u2019s written and directed by a white man<\/a>, it\u2019s shot through a straight male<\/a> gaze.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moretz made the remarks in an interview with the L.A. Times<\/em><\/a> with reference to Boy Erased<\/em>,\u00a0directed and adapted by Joel Edgerton.<\/p>\n

Added Moretz: \u201cThere\u2019s another conversion therapy movie that\u2019s coming out and you see how that was picked up by a major distributor, they are putting all the money behind it, and you start to compare it.\u00a0This movie was directed by a bisexual<\/a> woman<\/a> of diversity, it has a very diverse cast and we didn\u2019t cast all celebrities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moretz slammed the \u201cmajor distributor\u201d behind Boy Erased<\/em> for \u201cbacking first and foremost the straight white man<\/a> who is going to be putting out the movie that\u2019s the safer bet,\u201d adding \u201cThey want something that\u2019s a pretty package, but that\u2019s still tolerable and acceptable. And I think that\u2019s unfair. Queer movies should be told through a queer lens and created by queer people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Miseducation of Cameron Post<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>which won the\u00a0U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at this year\u2019s Sundance Film Festival, is based on Emily Danforth\u2019s novel of the same name. Moretz stars in the drama about a girl<\/a> who gets caught fooling around with the prom queen and is forced into a gay<\/a> conversion therapy center in 1993. The film also stars\u00a0John Gallagher Jr., Sasha Lane, Forrest Goodluck, and Jennifer Ehle. It opens in NYC on August 3 and L.A. on August 10.<\/p>\n

Boy Erased<\/em><\/a> is adapted from the memoir by Garrard Conley, stars Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, and Russell Crowe as well as Troye Sivan, who has composed a new song \u201cRevelation\u201d which also debuted in its trailer.\u00a0Boy Erased\u00a0<\/em><\/a>recounts Arkansas native Conley\u2019s life growing up in a religious home and being sent away to gay<\/a> conversion therapy, an ordeal he would survive but which would drastically affect\u00a0his life.<\/p>\n
