Jude Law has broken his silence about the sexual orientation of his character, the young Dumbledore, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald<\/em>. Beasts<\/em> director David Yates and author JK Rowling became embroiled in controversy earlier this year after it was reported that the character would not be \u201cexplicitly\u201d gay<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In February,\u00a0news broke that Yates would\u00a0\u201cnot explicitly\u201d reference young Dumbledore\u2019s sexual orientation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last year, author J.K. Rowling hinted that Dumbledore\u2019s sexual orientation would be addressed: \u201cI can\u2019t tell you everything I would like to say because this is obviously a five-part story so there\u2019s lots to unpack in that relationship. \u2026 We\u2019ll see him at that formative period of his life. As far as his sexuality is concerned \u2026 watch this space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following Yates\u2019 interview, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment to Rowling, and she was having none of it, clapping back at fans on Twitter and telling them to be patient.<\/p>\n

Law offered some of the same sentiment in a new interview with EW<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Said Law: \u201c\u2026as with humans, your sexuality doesn\u2019t necessarily define you; he\u2019s multifaceted. I suppose the question is: How is Dumbledore\u2019s sexuality depicted in this film? What you got to remember this is only the second Fantastic Beasts film in a series and what\u2019s brilliant about Jo\u2019s writing is how she reveals her characters, peels them to the heart over time. You\u2019re just getting to know Albus in this film, and there\u2019s obviously a lot more to come. We learn a little about his past in the beginning of this film, and characters and their relationships will unfold naturally which I\u2019m excited to reveal. But we\u2019re not going to reveal everything all at once.\u201d<\/p>\n
