Electronic musician Pogo, aka Nick Bertke ,whose video explaining why he hates gay people and cheered the Pulse nightclub massacre<\/a> went viral yesterday, addressed the outrage he provoked in a new video<\/a>.<\/p>\n Bertke said that the video<\/a>, as well as past blog posts about the evils of feminism<\/a>, are all a farce and a joke intended to \u201cgrind the gears\u201d of people on the internet who are prone to requiring trigger warnings and draw them out into the open.<\/p>\n \u201cThe things I said in this video<\/a> I think have deserved the reception that the video<\/a> has had\u2026I love confusing people\u2026Then I took it too far [and created the \u2018fagottron\u2019 video].\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cThere is no pinch of salt big enough to be taken with what I have said. It\u2019s all good and well for me to open a valve and to draw people out into the open \u2013 people I don\u2019t like, you know, hypocrites etcetera, but I feel very strongly that it\u2019s been very naive behavior on my part. If I\u2019m going to tuck my tail between my legs and admit anything it\u2019s that these posts and these videos<\/a> and these things I\u2019ve made for the sake of being edgy have not contributed to any productive conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n But he\u2019s a fan of alt-right troll Milo Yiannopoulos and other alt-right and conservative figures.<\/p>\n \u201cI like some of the things people like Milo Yiannopoulos say, but I don\u2019t like the way he says them. He\u2019ll get up in front of a crowd of people and bash the indigenous people of Australia. He\u2019ll speak in a very sort of derogatory, very provocative way, and I\u2019ve often found myself thinking, \u2018is that productive?\u2019 Compared to someone like Jordan Peterson, someone like Stefan Molyneaux, Christina Hoff Sommers, Steven Crowder, Ben Shapiro, Joe Rogan\u2026these are guys<\/a> who I think have very calm and collected discussions. These are people I could only hope to become like one day.\u201d<\/p>\n Added Bertke: \u201cApparently I hate gay<\/a> people\u2026Many of my friends and supporters are gay<\/a>. There is definitely a degree of irony.\u201d<\/p>\n He said that he hoped the video<\/a> didn\u2019t cause gay<\/a> people to want to kill themselves: \u201cIt has never been my intention to hurt people.\u201d<\/p>\n Bertke concluded: \u201cYou\u2019re within your rights not to believe anything here because I\u2019ve pretty much said that all my words up till now have been bullshit, so all I can say to you is that if you ask my family members, and closest friends, they\u2019ll all tell you the same thing, \u2018Nick\u2019s just being an asshole\u2019\u2026It\u2019s a part of me that I think is slowly growing up\u2026if you have recognized the jokes you have my deepest appreciation.\u201d<\/p>\n Wrote Bertke in text accompany his explainer: \u201cI don\u2019t hate gays<\/a>. I am in fact bicurious myself, and it has not been easy within the culture I have been raised. The 2016 video<\/a> circulating was a satirical sh*tpost made in bad tastes and I never intended for it go public. I have Asperger\u2019s and Bipolar disorder so my sense of humour and empathy for people is often very muddled. It\u2019s a condition I\u2019ve struggled with for many years as an artist who feels passionately about things and who faces the public eye every hour of my life.
