Jake Shears is ready to deliver on his third triumph of the year. The Scissor Sisters frontman is following up a Broadway debut in Kinky Boots<\/em> and the release of his memoir, Boys Keep Swinging<\/em>, with the release of his first solo album.<\/p>\n He previewed the first banger track \u201cCreep City\u201d back in October and today it sees an official release with an accompanying video<\/a> featuring the funk of New Orleans and the swag, sexuality, and theatrical madness you\u2019ve come to know from the glam rock virtuoso.<\/p>\n Shears told THE FADER<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cEvery song on the record is one live<\/a> take with eight or nine people playing together. It was exhilarating to not feel confined to a grid. We basically ditched the middleman, and I was able to create something that was truly my own. Like\u2014 a long while. I mean, I\u2019ve been hanging around a bit, posting a photo here and there. But for the most part, I hung up my sequins and I\u2019ve just been going about my life. But lord, I\u2019ve been missing you guys<\/a>. Like\u2014 REALLY MISSING YOU. I\u2019ve missed playing shows for you in funky clothes that I look back later and say: \u201cWhat in God\u2019s name was I thinking?\u201d I\u2019ve missed sweating on the front row. I\u2019ve missed everybody singing along and whooping it up. Above all else, I\u2019ve missed putting out new music. And that, my dear friends, changes today. Let me introduce you to Creep City.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a pretty theatrical jam, with quite a few twists and turns. It has all the touchstones of the sound I\u2019ve been conjuring. It\u2019s a song about being in a literally scary transition, reflecting a moment of my life when I found myself without my long time co-horts, without New York City, having to reassess my surroundings.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve not put out much out the last five years, (musically that is) other than a collaboration here or there. The thing is, I\u2019ve been working this whole time. But I promised myself that I would only put something out if it was really good. I mean REALLY good. There were a few years that I didn\u2019t quite know what I wanted to say, unsure of direction, but I had faith if I kept at it, all would be revealed.<\/p>\n In the fall of 2015, I moved to New Orleans part-time. I needed a change of scene, and it\u2019s a city I\u2019ve always wanted to live<\/a> in. I went down and began writing there and something funny happened: The good stuff started coming. And it kept coming. With the help of many talented musicians, I\u2019ve been able to create the record I\u2019ve been shooting for my whole life. It\u2019s not only the most personal thing I\u2019ve made, I truly believe it\u2019s the best thing I\u2019ve made. There was a moment in time, that I really wasn\u2019t interested in making a solo record. I found the notion a little cheesy. But I was talking with a friend one day and he said: \u201cThere\u2019s no issue with you making a solo record\u2013 as long as it\u2019s fantastic.\u201d I took that to heart.<\/p>\n There\u2019s so much more to come in the next year, but I couldn\u2019t wait any longer to give you a taste. If you want to hear more, I\u2019ll be playing it all in NYC on Nov 12th at Elsewhere, and in London Nov 14th at Heaven. Please come, I want to celebrate with you.<\/p>\n And my time hasn\u2019t been spent just making music. I\u2019ve also completed another labor of love that I\u2019ll share details on shortly. AND will soon be announcing another way that we can spend a couple<\/a> hours in a room together in a way that we\u2019ve never done before. It\u2019s the big \u2018ol slew of stuff.<\/p>\n So I invite you to come along with me in my new ride. It\u2019s gonna be a little different, but isn\u2019t it always?\u00a0 For those of you who have been waiting patiently, I have a feeling that this is gonna do the trick and then some. The cool thing, is that we\u2019ve already had so many great times together, and as the saying goes: \u201cYou can\u2019t make old friends.\u201d<\/p>\n The world is upside down right now. In the thick of it, I feel that we still need tunes that make us smile, that make us wanna sing and dance like fools. The power of coming together and finding some common ground can\u2019t be underestimated.
