U.S. Naval Academy freshman in Annapolis competed in the annual Herndon climb yesterday afternoon, where they are required to place a hat atop a 21-foot obelisk greased with lard. It took them 2 hours and 9 minutes to do so. Watch the live<\/a> video<\/a> above.<\/p>\n

The WaPo report<\/a>s: \u201cThe annual tradition marks the end of their hellacious \u201cplebe\u201d year at the academy, the country\u2019s premier training ground for Navy and Marine Corps officers. But that year is only\u00a0over\u00a0once the freshmen, known as plebes, manage to\u00a0replace a\u00a0\u201cdixie cup\u201d<\/a>\u00a0cap perched at the monument\u2019s tip\u00a0with an upperclassman\u2019s hat\u2026.The \u2018capper\u2019 was Peter Rossi from Phoenix.\u201d<\/p>\n
