Janelle Mon\u00e1e came out as queer and pansexual in a new Rolling Stone<\/em> cover story<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cBeing a queer black woman<\/a> in America,\u201d she says, taking a breath as she comes out, \u201csomeone who has been in relationships with both men<\/a> and women<\/a> \u2013 I consider myself to be a free-ass<\/a> motherfucker.\u201d She initially identified as bisexual<\/a>, she clarifies, \u201cbut then later I read about pansexuality and was like, \u2018Oh, these are things that I identify with too.\u2019 I\u2019m open to learning more about who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n My fave tidbit from the new ROLLING STONE cover on @JanelleMonae<\/a>: \u201cMon\u00e1e’s family members all share the same story: She was born to be a star. She cites \u201cMushrooms & Roses\u201d and \u201cQ.U.E.E.N.,\u201d two songs that reference a character named Mary as an object of affection. In the 45-minute film accompanying\u00a0Dirty Computer,<\/i>\u00a0\u201cMary Apple\u201d is the name given to female<\/a> \u201cdirty computers\u201d taken captive and stripped of their real names, one of whom is played by Tessa Thompson. (The actress has been rumored to be Mon\u00e1e\u2019s girlfriend<\/a>, though Mon\u00e1e won\u2019t discuss her dating life.)
