Olly Alexander Announces \u2018Years & Years\u2019 Second Studio Album, \u2018Palo Santo\u2019<\/b>

Olly Alexander announced Palo Santo, the second studio album from Years & Years, in an Instagram post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Said Alexander<\/a>: Our second album \u2013 \"\u2728\"PALO SANTO \"\u2728\" \u2013 comes out 6th July \u2013 I cannot wait for this to finally be out in the world y\u2019all! It\u2019s been a journey !!!!!Ups and downs and moons and Junes and Ferris wheels and fucking<\/a> tearing my hair out and crying into my pillow and running down the road to just \u2013 get \u2013 around \u2013 the \u2013 next\u2026.- corner\u2026\u2026I put all of it into Palo Santo, I put you and him and them and me into it. I\u2019m emotional im aroused I\u2019m upside down I\u2019m just SO THANK FUL THAT THIS IS HAPPENING THERE IS A WITCHY GAY FULL MOON IN MY HEART AND ITS SHINING SHINING SHINING<\/p>\n

Alexander\u00a0released a new single from the group, \u201cSanctify\u201d,<\/a> in March and said it was about a straight guy<\/a> exploring gay<\/a> sex<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Said Alexander to the BBC: \u201cHe told me was straight and we became friends, and at a certain point the relationship tipped over into something more intimate \u2013 and it felt like we were becoming lovers.\u00a0And suddenly, there was just an explosion of pain and conflict.\u00a0I\u2019ve been out as a gay<\/a> guy<\/a> for nearly 10 years, and I know how that journey of coming to terms with your own identity can be really painful.\u00a0I wanted to write something that spoke to that experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander also said that the landscape has changed for queer artists: \u201cIn the past, we\u2019ve all been familiar with pop stars coming out in the middle of their careers, or after they\u2019ve become huge and that feels like a heavy narrative to queer people.\u00a0Now it seems to be really changing that artists can be out from the start of their career; and it\u2019s not some sort of sensationalised headline.\u00a0Of course, there are people who still really struggle with being out, and I know some artists think it might damage their career \u2013 but I don\u2019t think the tabloids making a splash about sexuality would still happen.\u00a0I think \u2013 I\u00a0think\u00a0<\/i>\u2013 we can call<\/a> that progress.\u201d<\/p>\n
