Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon trashed her opponent Andrew Cuomo in an interview<\/a> Wednesday night with Stephen Colbert.<\/p>\n

When Colbert pointed out that she\u2019s running under the name \u201cCynthia\u201d and not \u201cNixon\u201d, the Sex and the City star smiled:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mother used to say that she grew up during World War II with a father named Adolf and then she lived through the 1970s with a husband named Nixon, so I am aware of the dubious nature of my last name, but I also have to say, if I was given the choice, I\u2019d rather be the good Nixon than the bad Cuomo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHoly cow put some ointment on that burn!\u201d, said Colbert. \u201cWhy are you trying to take away the man<\/a>\u2019s job? His dad had the job, don\u2019t do this to him. Why are you running?\u201d<\/p>\n

Replied Nixon: \u201cI\u2019m a life-long New Yorker and I love this state and I know we can do so much better,\u201d said Nixon. \u201cWe\u2019re a blue state. We\u2019re a proudly Democratic state, but we\u2019ve got a governor in there who governs like a Republican.\u00a0All of the progressive things that California\u2019s doing and Oregon and Washington\u2014 campaign finance reform and voting reform and fully funding our schools and being a leader in renewable energy and enacting real criminal justice reform\u2026this is the kind of stuff we want to be doing in New York. We want to be closing racial and economic inequity here, and we\u2019re just not.\u201d<\/p>\n
