Leading into Mike Pompeo\u2019s upcoming\u00a0confirmation hearing<\/a>\u00a0for the position of\u00a0Secretary of State, GLAAD has started a campaign to expose<\/a>\u00a0his close association with a known anti-LGBTQ hate group and his personal anti-LGBTQ record. An anti-LGBTQ activist is not qualified to be our country’s top\u00a0diplomat and\u00a0GLAAD is certainly not going to be silent about this! In fact, we are already on the move!<\/p>\n

This morning, GLAAD\u00a0Campus Ambassador<\/a>, Tony Hernandez, along with photographer Roberto Nava-Alsina, took to Capitol Hill with research<\/a> we conducted on Mike Pompeo and his connections to the anti-LGBTQ hate group, Family Research Council<\/a>, informing the 21 members <\/a>of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations\u00a0of who Pompeo really is and what it would mean for the\u00a0country for him to become Secretary of State. We\u2019re urging them to confront Pompeo\u00a0about his personal connections to anti-LGBTQ\u00a0hate and extremism at his confirmation\u00a0hearing and vote against\u00a0his nomination.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0\"\"\u00a0\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

The hate group that Pompeo has worked closely with,\u00a0Family Research Council<\/a>, has been\u00a0seen lobbying against Don\u2019t Ask Don\u2019t Tell, marriage equality, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and more. They even lobbied against<\/a> America\u2019s resolution to denounce Uganda\u2019s \u201ckill the gays<\/a> bill.”<\/p>\n

Pompeo\u00a0has also made\u00a0it his own personal agenda to oppose the LGBTQ equality. He was\u00a0against the repeal<\/a> of the Don\u2019t Ask Don\u2019t Tell Act from the start and has\u00a0vowed <\/a>to fight against marriage equality, abortion rights, and other LGBTQ matters \u201ceach and every day.” He even showed\u00a0distaste <\/a>towards same sex<\/a> parents, calling them less “ideal” families.<\/p>\n
